"One Senate Republican said that D.C. wouldn't be a 'well-rounded working class state,'" he chuckled, referring to Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR). "I had no idea there were so many syllables in the word 'white.'"

Nice!

The crazy part being Puerto Rico wouldn't automatically be a blue state with only Democratic reps and senators. And yet their racism still wins.

That's just bald-faced racism. I make a lot of jokes. There's nothing that could make that funny.

I approve of this and want it to happen more often so that Republicans start having strokes on the House floor. And in their offices. And on the toilet.

"D.C. people don't have real jobs?"  WUT?  Obviously completely racist claptrap.

On another note though, just wondering... anyone know if D.C. would be our first "State/City" combo... obviously we have no states currently that don't have cities and country/parish subdivisions in it... not that "there isn't a first time for everything", but, this would be a first.

Or is there talk of splitting up the new "State of D.C." into some "cities" within it?

Georgetown for example was a city for the first few decades of the census... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1820_United_States_census ... it was 7,360 in 1820 (good enough to be the 19th largest U.S. city), and is 10,829 now.

Also said by Rep. Jones in TFA"One of my House Republican colleagues said that D.C. shouldn't be a state because the district doesn't have a landfill - my goodness!" he exclaimed. "With all the racist trash my colleagues have brought to this debate, I can see why they're worried about having a place to put it."

Somebody better prep the burn unit at the nearest hospital, because their going to be be busy treating all those burns! :D

The funny thing is, DC's population, like any other state, doesn't have to be static: there's nothing stopping 700000 Republicans from moving in to DC and making it a "swing state" if they wanted to do that.

In all fairness, the concept of "suburbs" which didn't exist in 1789 undermines the Founding Father's intentions for DC.

Or an even crazier thought, try to think of ways to reach out to voters in DC that don't look like a blatant attempt at pandering to them in a patronizing manner.

"These desperate objections are about fear - fear that in D.C., their white supremacist politics will no longer play," Jones said. "Fear that soon enough, their white supremacist politics won't work anywhere in America. Fear that if they don't rig our democracy, they will not win."

With that, Jones left the microphone, leaving Republicans stewing in his wake.

Struck a nerve, did he?

There is no argument against DC statehood that is not racist.

You know what?  You're (or rather the picture you posted, since you are apparently incapable of articulating thoughts on your own) right.

I grew up a black kid in Delaware in the 70s, and Biden's soft racist rhetoric against school integration made my young life a living hell.  In college, his treatment of Anita Hill's valid accusations against Thomas made me sick.  I spent the next few decades loathing the man, and could barely stomach it when Obama picked him as VP.

But people change, and reevaluating your opinions in light of new information is essential to growth.  He is far from perfect, but so far he is turning out to be a highly effective leader, and amazingly, the most progressive president in my lifetime since LBJ.

At this point, I am proud to have voted to elect Joe Biden as president.  NYAH.

You do a disservice to minorities every time you gratuitously blame racism for everything you don't like.

No American is going to look at the seat of power in our country having a much larger voice than anyone else,as a great thing.

The electoral college was put into place to make people more comfortable knowing that if it wasn't inacted ,crooked politicians from corrupt cities working for the wealthy would have carte blanche.

Don't you see? There is no way D.C. Senators working up from the bottom wouldn't have the greatest access to corruption. That is the city. Would you want Ted Cruz's aids to have an incredibly larger voice than yours?
I wouldn't even want that idiot who wrote Pelosi's George Floyd "sacrifice" speech to have a vote worth more than mine.

It is bad enough my state doesn't get to participate in the primary now, then we have lobbyists and PoliSci grads controlling the state of D.C. making it worse?

Those aren't political boundaries, dude.  They are the XY axes for naming streets.  North-South streets are numbered, starting with 1st Street and increasing as you go out from the center, while the East-West streets are Alphabetical and increasing from A Street as you go out from the center.  So the are four instance of each intersection, differentiated by which quadrant you're in.

The nearest thing to political boundaries of "cities" is the Ward system:

And even those are even further broken up into Neighborhoods, which have their own Neighborhood Advisory Councils.
