Now, there's a game I haven't touched in a very long time.  I'm afraid the re-learning curve would be steep.

I've been playing Valheim...to death.  Built a nice little town for my main base.  Even built a small church in it.  Of course, I do all that in debug mode.  When I actually go out to gather resources for main game play, I don't use debug.  I head out and take all the risks that come with regular game play.  As far as bosses go, I've only gotten as far as Bonemass and discovered he has a hard time getting you if you're up high (but the SBDs can still get you).  Same with the stone golems.  Land on top of one and smash away!

Still playing Wreckfest online nearly daily, it's just stupid fun.

Favorite indie games, well I have well over 6000 hours logged in all the the Binding of Isaac games, if that says anything.
I'll still sing the praises of Amnesia:The Dark Descent being the most terrifying experience I had with a game since Silent Hill messed with my teenage head.

Teardown - is perhaps the most fun I've had in a game in ages, and looks absolutely stunning. Seriously, buy and play this game.

A Mothers Inferno - was an interesting short interpretation of the 5 stages of grieving after a loss.

The Plan - an even shorter piece...touching on the concept of mortality and our scale in the grand scheme of things.

NaissanceE - stark Brutalism that hates you, and you love it for it.

Quiet week for me as the only new game on pre-order was NieR Replicant 1.alotofnumbers that I have to pick up Saturday. But we did get a release date for Tales of Arise finally (Sept 10th). Yea!

I did have one gaming thought and saved it for the thread: A decent number of people in here do some emulation, myself included. However, when it comes to the next generation to get emulated widely (PS3, 360, PS4, Xbox One & Switch), I think we might be hitting a barrier that will slow people down. Actually, three of them: storage capacity, bandwidth speed & data caps.

Storage in that with games pushing 50+GB or more, that could be as few as say 15 games per TB. While mechanical drives are still cheap for mass storage, the speeds may not be enough for some games & high capacity SSD & NVME storage is still too expensive for the average person to have a huge library on one "disc". Even if someone just put games on quad-layer BL discs, that still could be at most 2 or 3 games per disc and you would be stuck using a PC for it and not some cheap emulation box.

Bandwidth will be an issue as no matter how fast you internet speed is, it really is only as fast as whoever is serving up the files you are requesting. I know a few of the system images I was downloading for my Pi & handheld units took over a day in some cases via Bit Torrent and I have been hitting 450 MbPS down & around 35 up (Comcast). But even with fiber, that is still going to take hours to do.

Lastly, and the biggest barrier....Data caps. Right now, I am have 1.2 TB per month. In just 5 image files, I hit 90% of my monthly allotment. Now, for $50 more per month, I can get "all you can eat". But I don't have cable TV, home phone service or anything else Comcast offers, so bundle discounts don't help. And if I really started binge watching via Amazon, Netflix or Hulu, I would be pushing that limit every month. $120 a month just for internet would be a waste in my case, but it also might be the only way in the future to keep up the freedom I was used to before caps were a thing.

The only way I see around it for now is just buying preloaded high capacity SD cards/USB sticks or high capacity HD's (which is already a things. Saw a company in the U.K selling 8 TB drives for about $350 Pounds (plus shipping, but not to the U.S. or Canada).

Thoughts, opinions, jeers?

(sorry if this goes against the rules but I thought it might lead to an interesting discussion)

I'm back to playing Borderlands 3 due to an update/DLC release just coming out.  Whole bunch of random shiat in it:

1. New questline (featuring Ava unfortunately, but she's actually not annoying here).

2. New raid boss (gather that Eridium though; you need 500 to unlock the door).

3. New vending machine with three guaranteed Legendary weapons in it (usually in two or three variants each).  Mild problem is that it's location moves every week to some random place on the map (but a quick Google is all you need to find it).

4. A machine that lets you reroll the Annointment on any weapon-for 250 Eridium.

5. A new reward/XP system for the end game.  Gives you Eridium, new Legendaries and cosmetics, and the chance of getting a Diamond Key (see next entry).

6. The Diamond Key lets you open not just a loot chest but a whole farking loot room.  Three walls filled with stuff (about 30 items on each wall), one filled with shields, one filled with Grenade Mods, one filled with weapons.  Take one from each wall, and get a bonus random weapon from the vending machine above.

7. New daily and weekly challenges to help with #5.  This actually encouraged me to go to places on the map I haven't been since the first playthrough.

The trick to the one jump is not jumping.

Been playing Fallout 4 on console, and Fallout 76 on PC. Having fun with both.

Some good indie games:
20XX
Spelunky
Fall Guys
The Messenger

Finally broke down and bought Skyrim for PS4. I never finished it before my PS3 died, so I'm giving it another go.

Played some COD:Warzone on PC. Having trouble adjusting to a gaming, mechanical keyboard. Looks nice on a 4k monitor, but I'll probably end up buying a smaller gaming monitor and move it into another room so I don't have to look at it longingly while I'm working.

I picked up Assassins Creed Valhalla for the Xbox Series X last week and had moment of playing it. I've also been on a halo kick as of late.

Need to get back to streaming but have been too tired or lazy to go from the living room to my bedroom for it. Plus getting my mic to work with the Xbox (I have an Xbox One X in my room) can be a pain

From my last Medieval II: Total War campaign.  After my current one ends (Sicily, it's around 1425 and I have all of the Mediterranean islands and coastal settlements except for Anatolia and a tiny bit of Spain, currently working to eliminate Egypt and thus control all of the Mediterranean and Black Sea), I'm switching to a different game for a while.  I think I'll go back to Pride of Nations.

Currently playing Stellaris afyer the Big Dick update. Dissapointed that the intel system without the expansion is limited to Gather Info only.

Other than that, the usual. War Thunder, Kingdom of Loathing and Witcher 3.

And fave indie game? Does Subnautica count?

The thought is fark Comcast and fark their data caps. I was using a regional provider until the absolute last minute Wednesday afternoon but unfortunately they don't quite reach my street here at the house the next town over. With Atlantic Broadband I was paying exactly the same price for the same speeds and zero farking cap. The CC tech that came out and checked my lines during setup doesn't even use Comcast. You or I or anyone else shouldn't have to double our bill for a bunch of shiat we'll never use just to get unlimited data.

/technically my region is exempt from the cap until next year
//still, fark Comcast
///seriously fark them

Still bouncing around.  Most of the games I play are indie games anymore.

I did start a new Skyrim character last week.  I went straight to Riften for the Thieves quests and realized I don't remember the last time I beat that chain.  Like, it all seems pretty brand new.  So I got that going for me.

Just found out that SaGa Frontier was remastered for PS4. It didn't get the best reception here Stateside, but I have a certain affection for the game - it was my first PlayStation game (I didn't want to get FF7 because a friend of mine already had a copy and I could always borrow it). Thinking about getting it after work, even though I've got a large backlog of games already. I've not even touched Final Fantasy 8 Remastered yet when I bought it on sale; I've just been replaying Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet with a sniper/SMG build and Need for Speed: Heat with a 1971 Nissan Fairlady Z that I'm essentially building as the Devil Z from the Wangan Midnight manga.

As far as indies...does Defense Grid 2 count?

For me it's been Remnant: From the Ashes almost exclusively. This game has such great design, feel, audio, infinite possibilities, and amazing multiplayer.

It astounds me how creative it is

Reinstalled Horizon Zero Dawn and started a new game+ the other day. Such a good game, the story is top notch and Alloy is the best female protagonist since femshep. New graphics card lets me run it on max and it's gorgeous.

XBox Game Pass got all of the EA games, so I went to play Mass Effect 3 which I never did before because EA.

Perhaps it's just time (and the fact the game just killed off my favorite two characters last night), but I'm kind of amazed how limited it is.  It's a set of "Go here, wander around an area covered in invisible walls not much bigger than my backyard, get a cutscene, move on" missions.  Coupled with the "Shepard is literally the only person in the entire galaxy able to achieve anything, and she can do everything with 2 buddies where entire armies fail" and it really stretches belief far more than the first two.

Oh, and did they nerf Incinerate tracking?  In ME2 I could bend it around walls and barriers all the time- in ME3 it seems like it goes out of its way to hit everything between me and the target

Also, not having a jump button should be declared a federal crime

RedPhoenix122: The trick to the one jump is not jumping.

That's for the tiny jump near the ceiling. My guess is that Subby is talking about the other jump in the sewers with the blocks in the way that make you fall in the water and redo the whole section in order to attempt it again.

fark that jump.

There can be only one choice for indie game: Stardew Valley. It has been out a long time and continues to get free content updates, including the massive 1.5 patch that added an entire new island area, with it's own dungeon to explore, and an entire new farm area to unlock. A previous update even added new heart events for after you get married, specific to each spouse.

I've been trying to save up enough for the item that costs 2 million gold, the return scepter, which immediately teleports you back to your home, so that I can balance the two farms before I actually start using the second farm area. A massive crop of cauliflower (including 2 giant ones on the same day) just brought in over 100k in one day, so making progress.

Debating marrying Abigail because she's best girl, or waiting to marry Emily on Clint's birthday because Clint is the worst.

Got a shipment from Limited Run Games, so I have dipped into the original Shante a bit this week. Boy that game is difficult when first starting out. Also still playing Yakuza 0. I only advanced the main plot to the 2nd chapter daytime but I have beat the Mr. Shakedowns enough to have every unlocked skill and 3+ billion Yen.

D&D is on hiatus since the DM was feeling ill last week and has state bowling this week.

Hades is my current favorite indie, but I like a lot of the stuff Way Forward puts out (see Shante above).

Call of Duty: Cold War Season 3 is kinda meh.  Seems like they put more into the cinematic than adding new weapons or maps.

Saints Row 3 at the moment. Probably the game I have the most hours in on the xbox. I have NHL20 somewhere, but they really mangled the shooting mechanics between 13 and 20 to the point where it's not fun to play. Even shooting on an open net I can only get a goal about 20% of the time, and I've hundreds of hours in the EANHL series.

2021-04-23 9:42:35 AM
Started a NG+ in ac odyssey before I start on origins.  I wandered a lot and was mid 40s before I did most of the main storyline, and still probably didn't touch 75% of the quests available, so I'm gonna try and hit up everything this time around.

2021-04-23 9:43:40 AM
Oh, cool!  I have Alien: Isolation for Switch already, but now that I have a better PC, I'd love to play it again!

I've been playing the heck out of Forza Horizon 4.  I gotta have all the cars.

Finally beat FF7 Remake.Once the nostalgia wore off I struggled to stay interested, but man oh man once I got to Shinra HQ that was bananas. I'm still not 100% sure what was going on with the story but all of the crazy fights and everything were very entertaining.  Overall it was good, a little disappointing, but good.  I'm sure Ill play all of the future installments.

Started both Days Gone and Horizon: Zero Dawn to see which one I'm more interested in and looks like its going to be the latter, but I might just switch between both. Also dusted of my NBA 2K20career which is always fun.

Now just waiting to see what the new Battlefield is going to be all about.

I've been playing the ever-living fark out of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm  Rebornthis week. Since I'm close to the end game portion of the base game's A Realm Reborn storyline (AKA Path 2.0), so this post will likely contain spoilers for that.

Last week, I had been taking on the Primal Garuda and doing various items of fork-pokery with my Dragoon/Lancer. That entity having been dispatched, it was time to infiltrate the Garlean Empire and investigate the Ultima Weapon. However, before that, there was a seasonal Hatching-time (AKA Easter) event that involved collecting colorful eggs while disguised in a chicken suit to avoid being attacked by angry poultry. However, said chicken suit could be worn outside the event, for example during cut scenes talking about epic events:

With them and their mecha taken out of the fight, it was time to take on Legatus Gaius van Baelsar who was piloting the Ultima Weapon in what is really the final boss battle of the base game:

Once Gaius and Ultima are taken down, the power behind the throne, the Ascian spirit known as Lahabrea tried to take us on. Unfortunately, as the actual final boss of the base game, Lahabrea goes down like a little biatch and it's time for the victory cut scene:

I've been playing Warzone especially with the Fortnite-like map changes, the last update added a significant performance boost as well!

I also just bought a Quest 2 that arrives Monday. I ended up buying it after they unlocked 120hz and you can use it to play PC games now, not just stuff onboard. I've been on FB since it started, so I don't really care about the integration much, especially for the cost.

I've also been playing Ostriv, Atom-RPGand getting used to the new set in MTG: Arena.

Ostrive and Atom are good indies, I like a ton of indie builder games; from RimWorld to Project Zomboid.

We're still doing our (very loosely based on) Rime of the Frostmaiden Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition campaign via Zoom and Foundry VTT. Last night's session went spectacularly well for my Barbarian, and he didn't even have to rage. We're currently in Ysgard and for convoluted reasons Chernobog needs us to retrieve the key to a gibbet from around the horns of an Ysgardian Aurochs (big semi-divine bull creature) so that we can interrogate a prisoner in said gibbet about why he stole a Nord's song.

At one point in our conversation, Chernobog had mentioned that the humane way to slaughter cattle for beef was to blindfold it so it didn't see the hammer coming. My Barbarian wields a war hammer which has some thunder damage storm abilities in keeping with his Storm Aura path. So naturally, I take off my wolf skin pelt and try to toss it over the Aurochs head. One natural 20 on an Athletics check later, I'm grappling a divine bovine. A successful Strength save means I only take 15 hp of damage from it attempting to throw me off.

The next round, thanks to a roll of 18 on another athletics check I'm able to wrest the key from the horn and the aurochs is unable to hit me for any damage.

Third time it comes round to my barbarian in the initiative order, he jumps off the bull and runs like hell (dash action plus fast movement for being level 5) out of the paddock to the rest of the party with the key to the gibbet.

The prisoner turned out to be (probably) an aspect of Loki, so we didn't end up believing them and just gave the key to Chernobog...

I just started this game last week. Going the black mage route. It's pretty good so far. I am trying to stay on MSQ and class quests and avoid all the side content for now. I accidentally wandered into the Golden Saucer and rolled out quickly. I'll figure out Triple Triad later when I have time. MSQ is what unlocks everything. I'm looking forward to not having to run around everywhere on foot.

I started playing Skyrim for the first time. As a Nintendo fanboy this is my first opportunity to play it. It's unbelievable. I haven't even fought the first dragon and I have a house where I can store decent items and set up to  mass grind. And 2 adopted kids.

I loved BotW. But Skyrim seems to have far more packed into a slightly smaller world. Maybe. I've only barely began exploring.

Even doing limited retro systems... doing this with a bandwidth cap would be a mess. (I used screenscraper through EmuELEC to get the cover art, manuals, etc. Having the manual is an absolute God-send for some of these retro games lol).

chozo13: Smackledorfer: Just finished Grandia 2 last night.

Started Grandia 1, but I'm not feeling it.

Grandia 2 was an amazing game. I picked it up on GOG some time back and it was super fun to play again, even after all these years. The gameplay has definitely aged well. The graphics, not so much.

If you like Grandia 2, then I highly recommend Star Ocean 1/2

Still playing Hades which is also the answer to my favorite indie game. I get to Hades every time now but still haven't beat him.

Glitchwerks: I've been playing the heck out of Forza Horizon 4. I gotta have all the cars.

Got it at release for Xbox.  I still don't have ALL the cars.  But I do seem to have all the cars I want.  I still get in and do the weekly seasonal challenges.

The joy of the Horizon games for me are the opportunities to race things against things they have no business competing with.  For example, with the cars from a specific country championships, taking some really souped up econobox out against supercars.

For my driving style, I do better with sacrificing top speed for exceptional braking and handling.  If I can brake later and hold more speed through the turns, I do well.  This is a bit of diminishing returns with the higher classifications.

Dreamcast Games You Should Be Playing On EmuELEC 4.0 For The Odroid N2+
Youtube hHPmqMJDONA

I have a N2 rather than the N2+ but I can play Soul Calibur for Dreamcast at 1440x1080 at a solid 60 fps.
