"I don't care if you're hungry. I'm not your food," Matthews tells the bear in the footage.

Can't imagine being stalked like that.
I'd probably try to pick up any stick or rock at hand.
I'd probably stupidly stand my ground in fear rather than giving it my back or try to wall backward out of fear of tripping.

Scary.

He's brave.
"Good bear"..

The bear was recognizing him as a food dispenser, because other people are such idiots they leave their food waste around nature.  It will likely become more aggressive in the future and have to be put down, because people are idiots.

Offer does not apply to Grizzly bears.

FTA: "Not all bear encounters are the same. In most cases, I've been able to just go around the animal. But this one was interested in me, so I had to change its mind," Matthews wrote.

I feel ya bear. Most girls in high school had the same reaction. Chin up bud. It gets better.

It almost seems like the bear was just walking around, found the road was easier, and kept along the road to try to get somewhere else.
It's like when you are on the sidewalk in a city, and you accidentally end up 4 steps behind someone else, and it seems like you are following them for a few blocks, only because you are both going from the same place to basically the same place.

Rather arrogant of him; humans ARE just another animal...

Grizzly bears are nature's way of reminding you that you're not special, except in a 'oh, that cookie is pretty,' sort of way.  But I still prefer them over Gristly bears.

Both are better than polar bears. They're one of the animals that actively hunts humans as a food source. No "Is that food?" Just "I've detected food." I blame all the Inuits who got eaten.

And all 3 are better than bipolar bears; you never know what you're going to get with one of those...

Hard to tell if it's a chocolate black bear or a young brown bear because Rumble apparently can't resize and the dude forgot how to use a camera.

Oblig:

In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle the bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains a lot of berry seeds and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper spray.

There's a place in West Yellowstone called Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center that houses a fair number of bears that have been habituated to human environments and have become adept at getting into trash and food bins. The bears can't be released into the wild. The Center allows people to submit prototype trash and food receptacles for the bears to try out and see how resistant the designs are. It's pretty fun to watch and you can tell the bears are thinking it through.

I love how this kind of testing basically debunked hanging food in trees in favor of essentially a ruggedized Costco cheezy puffs jar with a childproof lid.

Did they bust the PCT method specifically?  Or was it just some idiot throwing a rope over a too thick/thin branch right next to the trunk, and tying it off directly?

Ker_Thwap: Did they bust the PCT method specifically?

It's of limited effectiveness at best since most bears will figure out another way to get it down if they want it bad enough in most circumstances.

I caught the video where they tested one of those indestructible bags.  The bear gnawed the food bag into a drooly pulp, but the bag survived and they called it a win.  A win?!  You now have a bag full of bear drool food mush, and the bear probably would have just dragged it into the woods.  How is that helpful to anyone?
