If it really is just a few bad apples, it shouldn't be hard to get rid of them.

JUST 6% OF COLUMBUS POLICE OFFICERS ACCOUNT FOR HALF OF ALL FORCE REPORTS

and......

JUST 94% OF COLUMBUS POLICE OFFICERS ACCOUNT FOR EXCESS FORCE NOT BEING STOPPED OR REPORTED

And...yet...they have yet to do anything about the 6%. Probably too busy arresting African Americans for jaywalking.

Let's do the thieves next.  They keep VERY close track of who is pulling down the cash.  Let's see it.

It occurred to me the other day that maybe part of the problem is partners and/or lack thereof.  Last I knew, most departments stuck cops with the same guy or put them alone entirely, which possibly creates one-man-armies and "covering" for a partner.  My absurdly optimistic napkin theory is if more departments swapped in random "stranger" partners regularly--and ensured everyone always had a partner--they might be more paranoid about doing shady shiat.

Ding ding ding

If 6 in 100 cops are the problem, and the other 94 cops aren't turning on their brethren and turning them in, then we don't have an issue where only 6 cops are the problem.  We have an issue where 100 cops are the problem.

Lines up with most of the rape statistics I see, about 5% of men are like 90% of all rape cases or something, dig it up if you want.

Maybe 5% of people are just irremediable

That'll certainly change my opinion if the cop who saved the girl from being stabbed is one of these 6%.

It turns out having Dirty Harry, Robocop, and Judge Dredd on the same force really escalates things.

We're talking about crooked cops not defensive pairings on a hockey team.  They will find a way to undermine or corrupt their partner.  If that fails then they'll torpedo the entire system somehow.

The solution is to fire the shiatheads and not hire potential shiatheads.

You think Murican policing was once like Adam-12?   Oh sweet summer child.   American policing has always been crooked, going back to the days of slave patrols and the posse.

Ya, here's the thing... the other 95% of cops, the ones who turn their backs on rapist cops, murdering cops, child molesting cops, thieving cops, and drug dealing cops... the ones who cover up the crimes of that 5%... they're not any farking better than the people they're protecting.

"JUST 6% OF COLUMBUS POLICE OFFICERS ACCOUNT FOR HALF OF ALL FORCE REPORTS"

Here in Colorado, we:
-ended qualified immunity
-have statewide certifications (so bad cops can't job hop)
-have oversight boards that have fired cops for lying...

and still:

https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/woman-with-dementia-violently-arrested-after-forgetting-to-pay-at-walmart-v97d224a7

We have cops violently attacking elderly dementia patients over confusion/forgefulness over some snacks at walmart.

You can't reform this.... we've tried, and it doesn't farking work... we did all the things people say would reform the cops... and still, they're a violent, badged terrorist group that's accountable to no one... it's not like Elijah McClains murderers are even charged with anything... they beat the fark out of him, worked with some racist asshole EMTs to drug him up, and when he died, farking crickets from hypothetical liberals like Jared Polis and others in the statehouse who won't do dick to end this campaign of terrorism by police against ordinary people going about their business.

We can't fix policing. All we can do is defund it, take their toys away, give them no paychecks, and try something else, because this shiat just isn't working.

Sounds like whoever is in charge of hiring cops is a total imbecile. Vetting process, anyone?

For those who couldn't get past the headline...

"A lot of officers actually think you're only a good officer if you do generate complaints," said one officer, who requested anonymity citing fears of professional reprisal. "If you have an officer who just likes talking calls for service, he's considered lazy because he's not getting tons of felony arrests. But if you're known for getting lots of felony arrests, the force is fine, because you're getting busy, you're getting at it."

Emphasis mine. No one should be okay with a system who encourages complaints and felony arrests and discourages those who do not engage in the system.

Make it so that all settlements for police brutality and wrongful death claims come out of the police department budget and/or pension fund. That'll solve the problem fast.

6% of those officers responsible for half of all use of force complaints? That means 84% of the officers are responsible for not stopping the 6% who repeatedly engage in unnecessary or excessive force.

I'm curious: The report included self-reported incidents. How many of the 6% did that?

As far as protecting or not protecting, these are things reported to Internal Affairs and cleared. You do have to wonder how many weren't. I'd say at least the same number if not more.

Don't know if this story was linked on this site but a 25 year-old cop with the Fairfax County PD was involved with 932 cases over three year that resulted in over 400 convictions, all of which may now be overturned as investigators finally found his pattern of racial profiling and evidence planting. Just think about those numbers and apply them to every police department in the country, every sheriff's office. This shiat can't be reformed. It has to torn down and reimagined. American policing as is is indefensible and those who attempt to defend it are completely untrustworthy.

In the corporate world some geek with a spread sheet finds the trouble points, makes recommendations up the ladder, and those trouble points are terminated. It's often done to reduce overhead, salaries, benefits, etc.

Same should be done here. Six percent of the force is a trouble point. Terminate that six percent, and move on.

2021-04-21 5:03:47 PM
Just like how in the 60s, emerging crime stats showed that it was often the same set of families up to the usual bulls***

This precluded organized, big stuff, of course.

But as long as the institution protects these 6%ers, they're all guilty to a certain degree. It's kind of unfair, but clean up the house, then.

2021-04-21 5:05:06 PM
Cops arent the smartest or else those 6% would be in prison and the rest would have a way better reputation. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This is the same problem nationally with republicans. They are the minority. They are destroying everything. Yet they are still allowed to do so because being nice to nazis is america most important domestic policy.

I can say it better.

When you have 6 nazis doing nazi sht, and 94 not stopping them, just sitting back and letting it happen.

what you have is 100 nazis

Well duh. One average 1k people a year are killed while being detained. Since 2005 only about 110 were ever charged and arrested for a crime, 38 actually getting convictions and only 6 of those were convicted for murder, the rest pleaded down to or were found guilty of lesser crimes.

If killing that many people a year happens at a job and more people aren't held accountable for it than less than 1% for being bad at their jobs, then the killing is a part of their job and only some are only convicted because they performed poorly at it.

Just reminded me of Savannah during the St Patrick's Day parade- I watched a Mylar balloon float into a transformer directly above the heads of several law enforcement officers. Every single one crouched and grabbed the butt of their gun. It was hilarious to see.

It probably wouldn't have been as funny if they had started shooting.

Disarm police. Take away their guns. Make them wear bright, reflective patches on clothing. Don't want your guns taken away? You're fired.
