The ultimate problem with fascism is that after they've suppressed everyone else, eventually the authoritarians come for you.  The short term appeal to the business community is protectionism, suppression of labor rights and guaranteed profits but the long term effects manifest when the fascists start co-opting how you run your business and controlling what you can and cannot say and do.  That's where we are now.  The business community now finds itself for the first time on the receiving end of the fascist boot to the neck.

if republicans have lost corporations, maybe they need to have a look in the mirror and see how wrong they have gone

but i wouldn't want to look in the mirror either if i were rick scott

The business community spent literally decades opening up China for their cheap labor and lax oversight, and the Republicans are now putting the torch to all of it.  Big business is fine with systemic racism, as long as it doesn't interfere with profits.

The GOP is messing with the money now.  You can't mess with the money for long and survive in American politics.  Making noises is fine.  Putting a wrench into the actual machinery will get you eliminated from the business cycle.  Quickly.

He and DeSantis are going to slug it out in 2024 for the republican nomination. DeSantis passed his undemocratic protest law yesterday, Scott had to fart loudly in the conservative press or lose his share of the derpers.

That being said, he did a pretty good job. It's no old school Fark gish gallop, but there's a lot of strawmen to tilt  at and be outraged by, patently untrue claims, and the nice threat of retribution in 2022 if republicans gain power. In regards to the threat I think he's soliciting political donations from those he threatens in the "pay me in case I win" fashion but he could also be intimidating smaller companies to keep them in the donor bucket.

It's antithetical to the belief that rich, white people should have the authority and freedom to do whatever they want. Of course it's a derogatory term in their eyes.

I mean, the boot isn't on the business neck yet guy, they are still very much in the courtship phase of abusive relationships.

This isn't even a lovers quarrel

All it took for them to abandon a cornerstone of their platform was not be fully on board with a law whose purpose does nothing but assuage the egos of the Georgia GOP.

Dollar Store Lex Luthor. Now that made me laugh.

How many cakes did he steal?

So he will no longer be taking donations from corporations?

Let me guess: "opposing us" now means "not giving us quite as much money as in the past."

Insurrection & crybaby authoritarianism is bad for business. And corporate America knows it.

Part of me (actually most of me) hopes that this moronic situation just keeps going, and the GOP becomes to anti-corporation as a result that they dumbass their way into being pro-labor again.

/In addition to fantasy, I also enjoy sci-fi.

But it's such a great substitute word for what they really want to say. "Socialist" was getting a little played out

The GoP isn't known for being logically consistent. They can be anti-corporation and the corps will still donate to them while being anti-labor with the blue collar stiffs still vote for them because abortion.

This is my thought too. Through their own pettiness they end up being as anti-corporation as Bernie and AOC. In a sense, it'd actually be a good thing

Never said it was uncromulent, but it's usage to mean "socially conscious" was always silly. Republicans now using it derisively is just much, much worse.

What does the GOP even stand for? They literally hate everyone in the country at this point. They've recently been feuding with the military and corporations. Who are they for and what do they want?

2021-04-21 1:12:20 PM
The GOPers (hopefully) may find themselves in a bit of a quandary. They have to suck-up-to and act like Trump in order to win a nomination. A primary with a 100:1 money ratio doesn't matter if the one with less money has the Trump blessing. But then, you have a candidate with no money and no appeal outside of the most rabid Trumpers.

This of course is the best-case scenario. Also, unfortunately, it still could give the House to the GOP

Wealthy white racist men and those deluded into believing that someday they will be wealthy white men, supported by women who believe their god tells them they must be obedient to their husbands.

There are some smaller groups sprinkled in there but that's the core.

They want 1) power 2) no taxes, 3) no abortions and (probably most important) 4) whatever is the opposite of what "liberals" want.

Yep, same shiat different day. They increase the deficit and debt every time they are in charge but 30% of the voting population believe they are the "fiscally conservative" party.
