So he wants to use the pound then start a new currency and then rejoin the EU and switch to the Euro?

That seems ...um not smart.

Depends, are you gonna carp about it?

Just leave the UK and switch to the Euro. Skip unnecessary steps.

I'd suggest the following possible currency names

Burns
Wallaces
Bruces
C-nts
Moors
Gingers
Kilts (That actually kinda works, in a non-jokey way)

This is Fark, after all.

Far more importantly, why do we keep publishing the Daily Excess.

I've been following Brexit for several months, and everyone in the UK is going batshiat crazy. Remember when some failed real estate guy got elected POTUS by 76K votes? Imagine the same thing, but deciding to make it permanent "because exceptionalisms."

Scotland's really been having problems lately, what with MTG going all Anglo Saxon on them especially the Scots Irish rednecks living in Georgia.

If only there was some unifying currency for european nations...

If you're fishing for an easy greenlight, it's good bait.

Subby might be a flathead but they are in tuna with your average Farker and have a whiff of the demand for piscine puns. They probably don't want to break the streak on porpoise. It's not like they are the sole offender submitting them from their perch anyway,

/I have no fish to embarrass myself any further, I'll just let myself trout.

Eh. Currently the rules mean that rejoining the EU as an independent country requires Scotland have its own currency first, so it's less a not smart decision and more a plain necessity for EU membership.

However as a former EU member they might be able to get some kind of concession/bending of the rules on that. just so long as it's clearly any exception for Scotland can never be applied again (looking at you Catalonia).

Don't they already have their own currency, set to parity with the English pound sterling?

It's not set to parity, it's literally backed - the Scottish banks are required to deposit English pounds before they can issue Scottish ones. In theory, the Scottish pound is legal tender everywhere in the UK because of this, but in reality, you run into problems if you try to use them outside of Scotland and the north of England.

Thus the "Promise to pay the bearer on demand" is still literal on those notes - you can go to the head office for the Royal Bank of Scotland, present your Scottish pounds and demand English ones, and they will give them to you.

In London they practically gie Scots banknotes awa to unsuspecting American tourists as change for real pounds sterling.  Practically non-negotiable south of Hadrian's wall, they are cherished sourveniers back in the States.

I hereby demand that I be given a Fark account: In theory, the Scottish pound is legal tender everywhere in the UK because of this, but in reality, you run into problems if you try to use them outside of Scotland and the north of England.

No, Scottish (and Northern Irish) notes aren't legal tender anywhere.

But they're still exchangeable for the equivalent legal tender, so they are worth their face value.

That's right, thanks for the correction - legal tender has a different (and better) meaning in the UK than in the US where it just means "it's money."

The new currency will be called the "fuqu".

This must be true. It's in the Express which is in no way a Tory mouthpiece.

I vote we call the new currency the "Kingsley".
