Dont you pretty much have to literally sign your life away when you go skydiving.

I mean, you are choosing to jump out of a perfectly good plane.

Not sure how you'd have a burrito on a modern canopy. Did she do canopy relative? Low pull to pop her Cypres seems most likely I would think. Her closing loop could have failed I guess, but the rigger should have caught that on the pin/AAD check.

Have you ever been on a skydiving plane?

Yeah - it's why I don't do skydiving

Anyway, I've been that rigger at Lodi, and,for those that don't know, that's Bill actually trying to be human. He is maybe the saltiest bastard I've ever met, and I have known some salty bastards in my time.

Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Asked what he would say to people who might ask why they should choose to skydive with his company over others, Dause said, "you're going to have to ask them."

Wow.

You can't let a bad break keep you down. You have to get back up. Well, with one notable exception.

Why does a paratrooper get a parachute, but a paramedic doesn't : (

/christ I hope the guy wasnt a paramedic

I'm amazed that what I assume is a small business (parachute company) can survive without insurance and make enough profit to pay a $40 million court judgement and still stay in business. Should I have opened a parachute jumping business as an investment?

So what do you think of this?  Would you say it's fair to point to the rigger?

Doubtful. You really can't pack a modern main wrong. You could probably just wad it into a ball and shove it into the deployment bag and do nothing but maybe cause some accelerated wear. Modern canopies are small, with corresponding short lines. More importantly, because of their small size and resulting high wing loading, you can make the control lines short as well, pretty much eliminating the last real wild card in consistent deployment.

Yes, once.  It was so bad I ended up jumping out

"Sure, we've had our fair share of deaths, but every one has been different" is a pretty good sign you just don't give a shiat and _everything_ is broken.

I'm always surprised there aren't more vehicular accidents on 99 caused when they swing over it (not just when they get hit by traffic from landing on it).  I know it's there, I live less than five miles away, I drive past it all the time, and I still get distracted by someone less than 100 ft up floating across six lanes of 75 mph traffic.

I've seen hearing about deaths there all my life. I have always lived in CA and am a retired old man so it's been going on for many years. Nothing new here at all.

Hey man, if the "shiat happens" reaction to a customer's death doesn't convince you, you're just not looking for a good time.

Look, I'm smack in the middle of Gen-X, I've just seen some good movies.

And I hate labels.
