Around here, it's the f*cking Evangelical churches preaching that the vaccine is the mark of the Beast, and that it's a liberal takeover of people's rights (like masking), and Jesus will protect them, and the only way to conquer this is through herd immunity, which means people need to be getting it, not vaccinating against it.

Seriously, it's religion and the propensity of religious people to believe bullshiat in general that's killing this country, not politics.  Politicians are just following up on what churches groom people for.

Politics has become a religion of itself, with similar absolutist views.

I think you are describing a chicken and egg scenario

Churches provide an easily lead flock to a politician. The politician helps the church leaders gain popularity & influence. Now there is a bigger flock to court. Now there is more incentive to run a larger noisier church. etc.

1) This is literally how the flu shot works, jackass. Which you probably also don't get, which is why thousands of people die from the flu every year. Thanks for that, as she.

2) That last part is also what protesters against police violence have been saying for literal decades. Their grievance is legitimate. Yours is not. Man the f*ck up already.

Stop talking about the possibility of coronavirus booster shots. Don't bully people who are vaccine holdouts. And if you're trying to win over skeptics, show us anyone besides Dr. Fauci.

I can smell their piss-wet pants from over here. I know they shiat themselves for lib-stiggin, but this is just pathetic.

Every time I read something about how republicans want to cling to their idiocy so that they can die faster, it brings a smile to my face and warms my heart.

As an trump-loving, ex-associate of mine said, "The cost of the pandemic far outweighs the loss of life.  The people who die are not worth the loss in money to the US."  I'm pretty sure he spoke for all republicans.

Let them die.

I could not agree with you more. I'm sick to death of Christianity. Maybe there are other religions that are hurting people, but in the Deep South it's Christianity. My partner is from Philly, and says that Orthodox Jews are just as bad, and I certainly believe her, but growing up and living for nearly 50 years with these idiots...these bark-at-the-moon stupid Bronze Age superstitious farkheads...and still our country coddles them with tax breaks and preferential treatment. It's pornographic.

My sister-in-law was spouting that stuff a few weeks ago. She caught Covid last Monday.  She doesn't listen to me because I told her I was a minister too, in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

/only became a minister to shut her up and so that I can park in the clergy spots at the hospital.

I've said it before and I've said it again. As soon as the vaccine is fully available to anyone who wants it (including kids), I no longer care if these people get vaccinated or not. I no longer care about US caseloads or risk factors. I think it's our duty to the genepool to let them make up their own minds.

"He wants to get the credit for developing the vaccine. Then he also gets the blame for so few of his voters taking it," Luntz said in an interview. The longtime GOP pollster added that President Biden could be doing more to cross the aisle, such as making a joint appearance with Trump to tout the vaccines before promptly deferring to medical experts.

Stick to your dullard focus groups, Frank. You don't know how to stage manage politics.

Selfish regressive assholes and people who are obstinately contrarian due to a combination of religion and political identity politics are always going to be with the human race, and will always be trying to yank the wheel of the collective car when it is going over a bridge.

Always.

The problem our particular society faces in relation to them is that our country's systems are built at every level to reward those people with disproportionate political power AND media attention. If their votes simply counted 1:1 to our votes we wouldn't be in a LOT of the messes we are. We'd have the ability to tackle so many of today's problems.

And they're NOT rational people. Focus grouping better "messaging" isn't going to do shiat because "messaging" isn't the problem. The only message they're interested in are ones which tell them their biases and hatreds are correct.

The vaccine isn't 100% effective, and they also just end up as incubators for vaccine resistant strains. If it affected only them, I'd agree with you, but it unfortunately doesn't.

Fuxk you, it is not the responsibility of the people who aren't acting like children to do the research for you, coddle you, and make sure you're happy.  You're the only people being unreasonable.  If you don't like it, go visit covid wards, huff some sick people, and get your immunity naturally.

No farking shiat dumbass! You, as an individual, are responsible for making that a reality!

"The focus group revealed another unexpected development: Most participants said they would want a fake vaccination card that would allow them to claim they had received shots, after Luntz granted them anonymity to speak honestly."

Yet another reason why I advocate giving legal immunity to anyone who eliminates a plague rat.

When these rats get covid, I hope their last bit of strength they can muster is wasted on a pathetic whimper begging to die, just before getting strapped down and intubated without sedatives. Full stop.

Fark you, your feelings, your disease, and your god damned golden idol.

It doesn't shock me in the least. As shown by the forced school reopenings without vaccinating teachers and students first, people of both parties value convenience over science.

"The JAMA Viewpoint, ignoring these developments in Europe, also chose not to address an important study from southern India, published in the journal Science on November 6, which found children were spreading the virus among themselves and adults. The authors noted that the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh had developed a rigorous contact tracing and testing system. The study indicated that super-spreading events predominated, with approximately 5 percent of infected individuals accounting for 80 percent of secondary cases.

"Dr. Ramanan Laxminarayan, member of the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy in New Delhi, India, told NPR, 'What we found in our study is that children were actually quite important. They were likely to get infected, particularly by young adults of the ages 20 to 40. They were likely to transmit the disease amongst themselves ... and they also go out and infect people of all age groups, including the elderly. Many kids are silent spreaders in the sense that they don't manifest the disease with symptoms. They happen to get infected as much as anyone else, and then they happen to spread it to other people.'"

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/02/01/cdc1-f01.html

"According to physicians and infectious disease experts in Michigan, much of the rise in pediatric cases can be linked to the reopening of schools and youth sports. State data shows more than 40% of new outbreaks (defined as two or more cases linked by place and time) have come from either K-12 schools or youth programs.

"According to state data, since February 19, average daily new COVID-19 cases among children under 10 jumped 230%, more than any other age group. The second-highest increase in infections is in the 10 to 19 age group, which saw cases rise 227%. The trends in these groups exceed that of the state as a whole.

"The rise in cases among kids has been evident elsewhere across the country. In Minnesota, people under age 20 made up nearly a quarter of reported cases in March, up from less than 15% at the end of February. Similar trends have been seen in other states as well, including Illinois and Massachusetts. According to the most recent data from the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 64,000 new cases in children were reported nationwide between March 18 and March 25, the highest weekly total in a month."

Idiocy. The word you're looking for is idiocy. This is vaccine idiocy.

These are the people who say they'd just rather let their natural immune system handle it, because they don't actually understand how vaccines work.

Or complain that we should just be telling people to strengthen their immune systems because, again, they don't actually understand how vaccines work.

But still think they're smarter than MDs and people with relevant PhDs who have devoted their careers to the subject.

Idiocy.

I don't think it should be based on party affiliation. Maybe offer health coverage for COVID-related illness to anyone who follows recommendations and gets a vaccine (or has an actual contraindication to a vaccine)? The stick is (sometimes regrettably) not available to us, but in a country with non-socialized medicine you have a potential carrot.

Covid is kryptonite for a liberal democracy that tolerates mass-stupidity. 20% is enough to make this last forever. We can't shoot them. They won't conveniently cohort somewhere else. We probably can't FORCE vaccination but we can sure as hell incentivize it.

That's where my sister and niece are at. Their ability to participate in society depends on enough people around them behaving decently. And by and large, they do. Hopefully these vaccine idiots don't exist in large enough numbers to prevent sis from ever getting back out normally, but they're already delaying it.
