This is the first instance of early pandemic nostalgia for me.  I remember watching the early Big East game on tv, my wife calling and saying her office was closed for two weeks due to "some flu." She told me to grab two weeks of work, that is how long they figure this will last.  A month later and working in my basement I found Ted Lasso.

The show turned out to be an excellent pandemic panacea.  Even though there is some drama it is generally speaking a light hearted show that helped me feel semi-normal.  I went into it assuming it was going to be a whole lot of stupid American doesn't know football jokes and while there were a few of those I loved it anyway.

The crucial part, I think, is that the drama feels real.  A lot of us adults have experienced divorce or a bad break up.  We've felt Rebecca's anger towards our own ex.  Or Ted's helpless feeling with his wife.

For us the show is all about one central question: are you a person who makes other people better?  Or worse?  Sometimes we're one some days the other.  Ultimately we get to choose which we want to be, though.

I kind of feel like it's similar to the Good Place in centering itself around who we want to be as people, how we treat ourselves and others.

Did the Spiffy tag change or do I have to text my dealer and tell him this shiat is amazing?

Best show I saw last year. Can't wait!

I went through it again last week, and it really does get better, sweeter, and funnier with repeated viewings.
Different nuances reveal themselves and the writing is so strong and ridiculously tight.

How do they top it?  Even maintain that level?

Rewatching it, you also notice a lot of jokes that just sort of blow right by you the first time. For example, rewatching it, I noticed that at one point someone says "Cheers" to Ted and he immediately responds "Night Court."  I probably find that way funnier than I should, but my point is that I completely missed that joke the first time around.

Fantastic new, which only means I will start a rewatch of season 1 in late June/Early July.

Great show.

It was as perfect of a season of TV as I can remember. Every single line of dialogue informed something that happened either right away or later in the year.

It was the perfect antidote to 2020.

/Planning on getting a "Be curious, not judgemental" tattoo in the near future

Loved the show, but one tiny inconsistency stuck out with me upon rewatching.

[Pub scene, episode 8]

RUPERT: Do you like darts, Ted?
TED: Oh, they're okay. I'm more of a cornhole man myself. Yeah.

This exchange happens a few minutes before the "be curious, not judgmental" speech, where Ted says that Rupert didn't bother to ask if Ted played a lot of darts. Rupert deserved to be hustled, but he did ask earlier if Ted played.

Mrs Mariner314 and I have been onboard since the day this dropped.

Love of EPL and Jason Sudekis pulled me in, but the absolutely positively energy of the show made me a prophet to all that is good.

Seriously, best thing we watched in 2020. I think we've done the whole series about 8 times now.

I'll give him a pass.

Sounds like he stopped playing when his dad died and maybe he doesn't really "like" them.

Technically he doesn't play,

I give him a pass too... didn't mean to sound petty or critical, it's an awesome series and I'm excited for season 2.
