(Five Thirty-Eight)   "Unfortunately, I think the idea of security has basically been an excuse to limit access," Captain Obvious tells Nate Silver's coven, but 538 also discusses the actual sort of election security which the GOP doesn't want to touch with a 39 foot pole   (fivethirtyeight.com) divider line

Witness their repeated refusal to fund it.

You mean their election security efforts have been nothing except nakedly obvious attempts to suppress the votes of certain demographics? The hell you say!

So, now we're back to worrying about voting machines being hacked? Somebody call the pillow guy...

We should vote by DNA profile.

Because rapists shouldn't be voting for forced birth politicians.

National all mail in balloting.  Problem fixed.

There's a big difference between morons spouting lies and/or manifest complete bullshiat about the ghost of Hugo Chavez working with Dominion Voting to steal votes from trump by shipping "servers" off to Germany when they're not abducting children for Hillary Clinton's pedophile ring run out of nonexistent pizza parlor basements, and the actual threats faced by voters whose voting systems fail to generate a human-verifiable paper trail.

Of course, you know this... You're purposefully pretending you don't because just about everything you routinely show up to defend is indefensible.

Oh, good, Texas is getting back to confusing everyone by holding the same batshiat principles and ideas as other GOP states but actually walking the walk on implementing programs instead of (or at least in addition to) just using them as a cover to intentionally make racism legal or decriminalize rape etc.

Welcome back, Texas. We missed your weird farking absurd bullshiat like actually doing the work to make sure everyone could get a mandatory voter ID for free and open carry with an actual required training course focused on de-escalation training and such.

Yeah it looks like the GOP is intentionally altering votes in those states.  How much you want to bet the areas without paper ballets have lots of minorities, but districts controlled by racist old white men?

Identity theft is already a crime.

Voting more than once is already a crime.

Stealing someone's ballot is already a crime.

Plus, the criminals that perpetrate these crimes are really easy to catch.

Probably running GPT-3 on all of Hunter Biden's laptops.

Seriously, that jerk just leaves the damn things *everywhere*.

Biden won by over 7 million votes. That was a mandate by the American people.

Blue states have worked out a pretty straightforward solution.  All the votes are marked on paper (well, cardstock actually) ballots that are readable by both humans and optical scanners.  The scanners that count the ballots are much simpler than touch-screen voting machines and have no need to be networked, making them harder to hack from outside.  The ballots from each ballot box are bundled and saved for several years, and if there is any question of the counting machines having been compromised, a random sampling of bundles can be selected for manual counting to see if the human count agrees with the machine count.  (The human count is performed by members of both major parties, plus any minor parties that manage to send representatives.)

Republicans have an aversion to physical, archivable ballots for some reason.
