Falsifying medical and official records is a chargeable criminal act and threatening or pressuring people to falsify and/or  lie is a criminal act. Time to start arresting and charging people.

I wonder how many veterinarians cover up the tens of thousands of dogs cops murder every year with zero consequences?

The police have investigated themselves and have determined that they did nothing wrong.  If you bother them again they'll kill you.

Actually, only 1 in 5 admit to being pressured to change a cause of death.
So not all of those may have done so.
Alternatively, not all who have been pressured may have admitted it. And some ME's may not need any external pressure at all to cover up for law enforcement.
The whole ME/Coroner system needs to be de-politicized, and removed from local scrutiny/control.

The people who work for the county who must determine whether police killed somebody find that police didn't kill someone over half the time?

Wait a minute, I'm looking for my shock here, but I can't seem to find it.

Maybe I should be a medical examiner.

Fear of police retribution.

This seems a little more serious than not recommending Crest.

We need to have a system where medical examiners do blind examinations.  They should have minimal information about who the deceased is, who is thought to have killed them, where they were found, ext.

Same with other forensics experts, like ballistics guys, when they are testing bullets to see which gun fired the bullet.  They should be given bullets from six or seven similar guns, and see if they can confirm where the bullets came from from the rifling, rather than we take their word for it.

If their methods are actually scientific they should be coming up with the same conclusions.

The trouble with police forensics is that there's nothing scientific about it. There's only what has been previously found to be admissible in court and successful in getting the desired judicial outcome.

I'm only surprised it's not higher, but then again the question was how many get coerced into it by request rather than how many do it simply because that's what they're paid to do.

So much this, at the very least they should be required to make a blind initial report and then later if their findings are inconclusive a second physician can be given more information if it is needed. Then both the initial blind examination and second informed examination can be accessed by the prosecution and the defense.

"It wasn't the first time a medical examiner or coroner shied away from implicating the police following a high-profile killing."
