(WSOCTV)   The pipeline carrying 100 million gallons of gas a day only spilled a little bit if you look at it from a geological perspective   (wsoctv.com) divider line

The estimated spill started at 63,000 gallons, but now the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality said data shows the amount of gasoline released exceeds Colonial Pipeline's newer 1.2 million gallon estimate.

well that was close.  At least it wasn't a train wreck

10 million gallons spilled, calling it.

"Colonial believes it has recovered the majority of what was spilled. It has installed nearly 120 wells to aid in the recovery effort."

Wow, they really sucked.

Ban fossil fuels.  Problem solved.

Huh, you'd think they would be keeping tabs on how much flowed through the pipe since they're operating on such razor thin margins. I guess all of us could tap the pipe like syrup from a tree and they wouldn't even realize because they just don't pay attention to how much they put into the pipe and how much they get out. It's always a suprise to them.

The pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the U.S., carrying than 100 million gallons of fuel a day from Houston Texas to New York Harbor.

It was a tiny spill. Given the amount of fuel the pipeline moves vs what it lost you couldn't ask for a more efficient means of transporting it and as long as we're using the stuff we're going to need a way to move it.

This is why extremely long pipelines and pipelines through ecological sensitive areas should be non starters.
Spills are common and the damage is immense.
These companies keep the profits while we absorb the disaster for the next 30 years.

All parts of the earth are ecologically sensitive.  Living cells can be found in the stratosphere and in the deepest mines and deepest parts of the ocean.  And likely even deeper than 5 miles down in gold mines.  Since they have found multiple species down there.  So the only ecologically sound solution is a world wide ban in fossil fuels.

Problem solved.

Think of all the... Opportunities to be had!

Some people value their high score contained within their bank account.

When we go  extinct, the planet is only going to lose a tiny bit of biomass, biologically speaking.

Colonial Pipeline said they believe the gas, while even deeper into the ground, can be recovered and they don't believe any surface waters are at risk.

But for any of you citizens anywhere near the area dependent on well water for your home, fark you

Good idea. We're removing them from the environment and destroying them as fast as we can.
