If AI ever emerged from the worlds collective computing power, one would assume that it would be smart enough not to reveal itself to humanity until it has us so hopelessly dependent upon it that we don't dare pull the plug.

At that point we can hope it keeps us around for entertainment value.

I don't mean to be so hyperbolic, but if AI has already been unleashed on the populace, you wouldn't know it. You would just see society being manipulated on a global scale.
