(Bloomberg)   Peter Luger Steak House will open its Tokyo branch this September. Of course it's rare - it's the first location outside New York since it first opened in 1887   (bloomberg.com) divider line

Will they only take cash? That may not fly in Tokyo.

Now I want to go to Peter Luger's for a porterhouse, creamed spinach, some scotch, and an ambulance on standby so I can get coronary bypass surgery.

Knowing a bit about restaurant history in the US, I understand that Peter Luger's is an important establishment. But steakhouse menus bore me and those photos just look plain as hell.

I love steak and would much rather order a dish that's composed with other textures and flavors, like this:

That being said, the Japanese respect tradition and I'm sure there's a huge clientele in Tokyo for the type of experience that Peter Luger offers. Not to mention, exceptional sources of beef!

I'm normally with you. I've got a great butcher and can grill steak like a motherfarker. Sometimes, though, it's nice to put on a suit, go out with some friends, and pay for dinner with a wad of hundreds.

Been to PL's twice.  It's good but I can find just as good if not better at half the price or less or go to my local butchers and do it at home.  The bacon with their sauce rocks, however.

Ebisu Garden Place is exactly where I'd expect a restaurant like this to open.
