Oh derp!
They discovered it in 2010 and spent ten years preserving and incorporating it into the hotel.

That is just stunning.
They should surround it with mirrored walls and an open/glass ceiling.

Looking at the picture on the left I thought it was a couple of square feet. Then on the right with people for scale - whoa!!

1000's of years and earthquakes and the mosaic is still intact while the tile work in my bathroom looks like it had a bomb dropped on it only after 2 years.

I'm not sure if this is a comment on the relative skill of Roman craftsmen or a brag about your bathroom emissions.

Your tiles are essentially glass.  These mosaics are most likely stone.

Who knew Apple Maps profiled the interior of ancient buildings?

I found this article that claims the mosaic is actually pre-Roman, but was worked on right through until the 13th century.

/It also notes that Antakya was known as Antioch back in the day, so it might be wise to have an EOD crew on hand in case they discover any holy hand grenades.

Use fun house mirrors and the reflection will show a flat floor.

Also, tiny tiles. If you have any flex in a subfloor, large tiles will crack. If you have tiny mosaic tiles, the joints between them -- grout/mortar/whatever -- is what cracks.

There was a shut down middle school in my area that had the gym floor buckled by water damage. Very easy to get into and filled the gap for a couple of years before public skate parks became a thing again. Later they tore it down and made a community center, sans skate park of course.

That's awesome. Can you imagine being high and trying to walk that floor?
