I anticipate guilty on murder 3 and walks on all other charges. But who knows? If he walks on everything justice is dead and my city is going to get obliterated so I'm holding my breath here.

2021-04-19 10:42:46 AM
Shouldn't this be called the pre-riot thread.

2021-04-19 10:42:49 AM
Gonna walk.
Shiat's gonna burn.
Yo.

2021-04-19 10:43:20 AM
This should be a  Fark Poll:

What do you think the verdict of the case will be?

A) Derek is going to jail
B) Derek will be all white

2021-04-19 10:43:49 AM
I fear for your state. If he's acquitted, I'm afraid a lot more death will come to pass.

2021-04-19 10:44:31 AM
get this shiat on the main page. murder isn't politics.

2021-04-19 10:45:15 AM
I predict a hung jury.

One will buy the cop defense that he died due to overdose, and thus the cop isn't directly responsible.  Much the folks who think the woman hit by a call at the nazi rally died due to a heart attack.

Few months later the DA will refuse to refile the case, arguing they can't be sure this hanging won't happen again.

2021-04-19 10:45:24 AM
Guilty. NEXT.

2021-04-19 10:45:27 AM
He's not gonna walk. They're going to nail his ass to the wall. Go ahead and screen cap this.

2021-04-19 10:45:42 AM
Weak closing argument from prosecution. Wishywashy.

Defense jumps right back with how many cops this took/ how long it took/ how many agencies involved in arrest and this guy is going to walk.

Shameful.

2021-04-19 10:45:44 AM
How can they not find him guilty? Relax. It's in the bag.

Unfortunately , cops being allowed to murder and injustice in our system is politics. Especially when the only thing offered by Presidents was more cop funding.

You must not be familiar with the history of politics. A lot of leaders didn't die peacefully in their sleep. /s

I'm sure the verdict thread will be on the main page. And there will probably be riots either way.

Does the prosecution have a solid case?

Absolutely, and that means Chauvin has about a 90% chance of walking away free.

2021-04-19 10:47:09 AM
Picked the wrong day to head to a big city. Fark. Heading to Flavortown to get my kid vaccinated.

If we can't convict this blatant and obvious murderer, do laws still matter?

Murder shouldn't be politics, but when's the last time a white person killed a black person where Republicans didn't immediately rush to the defense of the white person?

Sentenced to 5 years - suspended pending successful probation.

I refuse to submit to "everything is politics". Cynicism is at the root of almost every issue in America today. You gotta fight against that mindset.

By all rights, he should be going down. Not holding my breath, but he's absolutely a murderer.

2021-04-19 10:50:30 AM
If he walks it will get ugly, I hope he doesn't but history is not comforting.

A guilty verdict is the only acceptable outcome.

The only thing in question is the exact crime Chauvin is guilty of.

There is absolutely no reasonable doubt in this case, there is absolutely no other credible evidence that George Floyd died for any other reason than he was choked and/or suffocated by Derek Chauvin.

Elandriel: I anticipate guilty on murder 3 and walks on all other charges. But who knows? If he walks on everything justice is dead and my city is going to get obliterated so I'm holding my breath here.

I don't think it'll get obliterated, there's probably German words for it but I think a lot of people already have a mix of anger/sadness/anticipation that it will end in an acquittal. I'd expect more tears at how this is how things are than rage, an imbalanced justice system isn't a surprise after all to many.

I mean unless the cops take a rubber bullet victory lap then that might turn out differently.

2021-04-19 10:52:16 AM
Prosecutor's closing argument should've just been 9 minutes and 29 seconds of silence, then say "that's how long they sat on his neck".

2021-04-19 10:52:40 AM
My guess is that he's going to do less than 10 but that he's going to be found guilty unless there is a problem in the jury pool.

It's going to be appealed and I am guessing in reality he'll do less than 5.

Yeah, that's definitely a possibility. In defense of the DA, though, they'd be right. He's guilty, but getting the whole jury to go with that will be a problem. First time is the best chance in this case. The riots if he walks will taint any jury pool too.

2021-04-19 10:52:54 AM
I still doubt you are not going to find 1 in 12 people in a random pool who will say it was a personal failing on the part of the suspect that he couldn't survive having a knee on his neck for 8 minutes, and if he didn't want to die then he shouldn't have been a suspect.

Prosecution laid down a solid case, but so did the prosecution for the trial over the murder of Walter Scott. In that case one farkwit hung the jury.  Hoping for at least one guilty verdict, but worried about that one farkwit.

But Derek is white and a police officer and has a promising career in swimming. . .

He'll get convicted of a lesser charge that ultimately carries a prison sentence of less than ten years, thereby allowing the prosecution claim justice is served.

Meanwhile, following over a year of post-trial motion practice, this matter goes up on appeal and the Minnesota Supreme Court reverses his conviction and orders a re-trial five years from now due to procedural errors by the prosecution.  The prosecution then quietly enters into a plea deal with Chauvin that sees him walk with time served.  The matter only receives local coverage with no major media coverage.

C. Somehow the worse of both.

He gets indicted for a trivial technicality somehow and does like three months and 120 hours of civil service, but it is not enough to keep a firearm from him so he comes back out and gets another police job.

Anything short of Chauvin in prison is a miscarriage of justice and I won't blame the rioters.

More like when. Cops around here in MN have failed to impress me in every opportunity they've had recently. I'm sure they're itching for a not guilty so they can be even more emboldened to do reprehensible inhumane things to the inevitable protestors.

2021-04-19 10:56:25 AM
If I were a betting man, I'd place this 40% likely to be found guilty, 25% likely to be found not guilty, 35% likely to be not guilty on some counts, hung on all other counts.

2021-04-19 10:56:58 AM
He will get five years but with a suspended sentence and 90-days of shock probation (i.e. short jail term as a condition of probation.)  He will never actually serve time because the conviction will be overturned on appeal.

2021-04-19 10:57:04 AM
He seems clearly guilty to me, but I'm worried about the jury pool having trumpers in it.

I'm curious how the verdict on this one is going to fall.

I haven't watched a single minute of this trial because really, that 8 minute video should be all you need to watch and there's no argument to be made against it.

So, I'm just waiting for a verdict to see if there's any actual justice in this burnt out bird of a nation.
