his salient connection between Till and Hampton resurfaced in April 2021 after it was reported that the girlfriend of George Floyd, a Black man who died after an officer knelt on his neck for more than 9 minutes, was once a teacher for Daunte Wright, a Black man who was shot and killed by a police officer in Minnesota. Around this time, The Washington Post reported on another calamitous connection, noting that Caron Nazario, a Black U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant who was pepper-sprayed by police, viewed Eric Garner, who died in 2014 after repeatedly telling a New York police officer that he couldn't breathe due to the officer's use of a prohibited chokehold, as an uncle

Now you can read the above and think "wow those are some interesting coincidences" or, "Jesus there is so much police brutality happening in America that nearly every African American has been affected by it multiple times"

If you want to read something that will tear out your heart read Wolf Whistle by Lewis Nordan.

It's a sort of fictionalized account of Emmett Till's murder.

Christ, i didn't know Emmit Till was as recent as 1955.  I always imagined it was in the 1920's or something.

Not that it would've made it any less sickenly barbaric and evil, but just shocking how close we are to that moment, still.
