Mourinho: OUT at Spurs.  Well, at least that's momentarily distracted the sports pages from wall-to-wall ESL coverage.

Go Leeds!

I see Spurs have become 50% more likeable this morning, after becoming 500% more hateable with the Super League bullshiat.

Yeah. Personally I'm happy to see JoMo unemployed again, angry to see my club part of this ESL bull.

Yeah, if BVB are definitely not getting involved (and they were rumored to be in the group yesterday); then my 2nd favorite club will be my favorite club.

As someone on Twitter said, the EPL is telling teams that join the Super League, they will be stripped of their league titles.  Tottenham was not contacted.

Someone replied "Why would Tottenham need contacted?"

The joke...zoooom

They borrowed a staggering amount of money (at the time) and could only afford to pay the loans and the wages if they got into the CL every season.

They missed out in one season and to keep the lights on and not go bankrupt they had to firesale the players (while some sat by and collected massive wages for the league position). This led to a cycle of inexperienced/bad players causing poor results, that led to less money so the good players had to go, causing poor results on the pitch. Took them the best part of twenty years to undo the damage.

Rangers on the other hand tried to do a fancy tax dodge to pay the players more but HMRC were having none of it. They couldn't pay the back taxes so went bankrupt as no one want to bail the out.

Mane been missing lately?

His usual schtick was to be offside.

I mean, he was even off by negative inches that one time.

That's one thing. I wonder if the socios will try to push impeachment votes. It wouldn't be the first time either club president is ousted.

I truly hope the clubs involved retract that stupid idea and get banned from European competition for 2-3 years, minimum. The longer they take, the more punishments get added.

49 years here. I swore I'd never come back after the EPL debacle and I caved eventually, but not this time. I'm done if this sticks.

22 years being a Real fan myself. Randomly landed on ESPN when I was 6 years old and was hooked. This move is indefensible.

I'll follow the Swans and go into dormancy if/when they go back into the Championship.

I like the suggestion that they relegate the ESL six to the Championship instead of the bottom three. Or in addition to the bottom three . Just because I feel like insane promo/relegation shenanigans might aid the MIGHTY get up to the championship.

2021-04-19 4:13:07 PM
i hope they kick out the teams from this year's comps, and deduct enough points that they can't qualify for next year's. and if they have the power to relegate them then by all means do that. and yes, that includes liverpool.

2021-04-19 4:18:03 PM
Just out of idle curiosity I'm wondering how the ESL is going to pitch promotion into its setup. "OK you can get promoted into our league, but you're not particularly wanted here, this is all about the Big Twelve really.  So we'll be pouring all the money into the Big Twelve and you're just there to make up the numbers.  If you don't succeed right away, we'll kick you out.  You might not have a domestic league to go back to, but that's not our problem, is it?"

That latter move would prove difficult, considering how CAS is. The only administrative relegations I can think of have been for criminal actions (Calciopoli) or financial failure.

Depending on whether they quickly retract this stupid idea, they could even attempt to avoid a ban on future entries.

Afternoon all. Just got here for the last 30 minutes or so.

And add my voice to the chorus of those condemning the ESL, a.k.a. "we are entitled to Champions League levels of money every year even when we don't deserve it, just on the basis of our reputations".

domestic leagues will still exist. this would effectively replace the champions league, not the domestic league.

Thing is, the Super Cashgrab is supposed to have non-charter clubs as well. Kind of like NASCAR, where the non-charter clubs are shafted.

And you're thinking that the domestic leagues would just welcome sides relegated from the ESL with open arms?  Nah.  There will probably be a whole raft of clubs in limbo who aren't big enough to be part of the "un-relegateable" ESL clubs, but who still might want some of that ESL cash.  What's going to happen to them?

they're not leaving their domestic league. this is a second league (like the champions league) that runs simultaneously to the domestic campaign.

The logical conclusion of all this is an international franchise-based league that includes New York and Miami, and all the clubs belong to Arab sovereign investment funds, or Red Bull.
