I don't get it. They're completely consistent. Premise: COVID is a hoax. Vaccines are an admission that it's real. Restrictions acknowledge that it's real. Both must be avoided.

It's like they think the only thing you can do to protect yourself from anything is to acquire more firearms and pray.

It's simple.

There are rules.  It's fine if they apply to you.  But they shouldn't apply to ME.

The only purpose of rules is to hold back those I think shouldn't be on my level, so naturally I'm going to freak out if you try to make me follow rules.

It's been that way since the beginning of the epidemic. Both sides wanted to open the economy as quickly as possible. One side thought the way to do that was to just.... open everything up, which would prolong the epidemic, of course. And they continue to try to prolong the epidemic by opening things up too early and disregarding simple health guidelines.

The other side realizes that getting this bug stamped out as soon as possible is the quickest way to opening things up.

It's not a paradox. These are people who yearn for the Apocalypse. Strive for it. They are so in love with the idea of sacrifice, that they're willing to kill everyone to lay down on their own altar.

They think it will separate the weak from the strong without once considering where they lay on the weak/strong continuum.

narocroc: As all the people I care about continue to get vaccinated I am getting more and more okay with this.

I agree, but the problem that we will see if enough of these assholes try to get around being vaccinated is that we won't have the critical mass of people vaccinated to create real herd immunity, and we'll just continue to have COVID zipping around and mutating constantly.

It frustrates the hell out of me, as I'd like to get back to doing some of the things I really enjoy outside, but don't want to have to be exposed to these brain-dead sh*t-weasels.

This is a self-correcting problem and I'm having less and less of a problem with that as time goes on.

Has it occurred to anyone that these folks secretly love the pandemic because it puts their ridiculous behavior on stage? They may be panicking that this thing might get wrapped up and the evil government takeover that they predicted won't happen. And that they'll all look like stupid contrarians and bad neighbors who were a threat the their respective communities and families.

Just like on Jan 7th.

The Republican party is a death cult. It's the only way to explain their love of guns in the wake of mass shootings and refusing vaccinations and basic health safety measures during a pandemic.

It's not when you understand that they're still pretending it's not real as a signal of commitment to The Leader even though it almost killed The Leader.

This. The masses of people unwilling to be vaccinated is simply going to maintain disease vectors that can lead to mutations and variants. Herd immunity doesn't just protect people who can't be vaccinated, it prevents the disease from getting purchase in enough people for the statistics of mutation to start working in its favor.

"Completely opening up" the economy too soon actually extends the amount of time it will take until a sense of normalcy.

Maximum Death.

Think of any situation, the solution that causes maximum Death will always be favored by the GOP.
Global Warming? Subsidize fossil fuels, fight every renewable, and roll coal.
Gun violence? Ban lawsuits against manufacturers, make them easier to get and carry, fetishize the most deadly.
Covid19? Ignore the threat, refuse masks/sanitizer/vaccines, encourage group gatherings, pass laws to prevent mandating safety precautions, and when pushed - cough in faces.
Etc, etc.

They're a death cult, and they pray for the apocalypse, and do everything they can to hasten it's arrival.

A large yet unsurprising number of these very same people have no problem putting restrictions on "other people" if it satisfies any random moral grievance but if you ask them to do anything perceived as an inconvenience for the public good and they lose their shiat.

If society tested individuals, and only intelligence, wisdom, empathy, knowledge were the attributes that allowed one to vote, we would probably see a single vote for a (R)epugnant, that vote case as a goof. These are not the best and brightest of society, they are the epitome of all the worst elements of humanity. So it makes sense that they resistance to being vaccinated all the while whining like children for their perceived liberties and freedoms.

Yep.  Everything comes down to some bizarre fixation with the survival of the fittest for them.  They feel they are somehow beating the virus by doing what they want and not getting it, while all they are really doing is playing the odds.  And they justify this using the shakiest logic possible.

Also, because we don't have 20 million dead bodies stacked in the streets like cordwood, they're clinging to the hope that this was all some sort of hoax because democrats (it's ALWAYS the democrats) hate America, capitalism and most especially Donald Trump.  Maybe because any change to the status quo is unacceptable to them, or maybe because they have zero coping skills when adversity comes around, but they seem incapable of accepting the reality in front of their faces.  I remember when this started, conservatives I knew took it seriously, but once the right wing coddling machine got rolling, they all fell into the anti-vaxxer, anti-mask, anti-common sense blather we all know so well.

It makes sense if you factor in the messaging coming from him and the cdc that even after vaccination you shouldn't eat at a restaurant, go to a bar/club, or go to a party and you still need to wear a mask and social distance from people. If you want to reach vaccine hesitant individuals tell them after the vaccination they can totally live their life without restrictions, they already are anyway so it isn't like it will effectively change anything on their end, and the wear-17-masks-and-huddle-in-the-bomb-shelter-after-vaccination people will still continue doing that.

I know one that was doing that months ago.  He was also sick as hell recently, but refused to become a statistic by getting tested.  You can't reason with them, since they go from calm to spittle throwing rage in about three seconds if you challenge them,

My son and I are getting our 2nd moderna shot on Thursday. We can't wait.

Just 2 more weeks after the shot to be considered fully vaccinated.

Entitlement Without Consequence is the GQP motto.

My father died from covid in February. A friend's dad just died a week ago. I have another friend who lost four elderly relatives since last May.

I lay all of those deaths at the collective feet of the GQP death cult. Farking traitorous assholes.
