It was bonkers, a high profile English figure like him, holidaying in that part of Ireland when anti-English sentiment was at an all time high, and with little or no security.

What happened was horrible, but not at all surprising.h Thankfully things have moved on since then.

Which part shocked you, that common scum would dare to raise their hands against a member of the nobility, or that God himself didn't intervene to stop this blatant disregard of the natural order?

Brits were pretty sanguine about the bombing of Earl Mountbattenberger at the time.
A crass joke from that time shows this:
How did they know he suffered from dandruff?
They found his head and shoulders on the beach.

I don't know why she bothered, tbh. The time for that was the end of The Troubles in 99. But that was covered, generally, in the reconciliation of the time, including the systemic abuse of the Irish by the English.

I mean, there's nothing wrong, per se, with it, of course, but....

Mountbatten was indirectly responsible for the Indian partition that killed millions and wanted to lead a fascist coup when Harold Wilson was elected. I'm sorry for his family members but I'm not going to lose any sleep that the son of a b*tch was reduced to a fine pink mist.

There are a lot of things that shouldn't have happened.

A bomb left in a waste bin in a busy street in Warrington shouldn't have exploded killing two children. But they were English so fark em right?

A bomb shouldn't have exploded in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland killing 11. But they were commemorating Remembrance Day, so fark em right?

In this particular instance, a coward planted a bomb on a boat that killed 4 people, two of whom were boys aged 14 and 15. The 14 year old was Mountbatten's grandson, so fark him right? The 15 year old was just a member of the crew. The coward has never spoken to that boy's family.

I'm curious... did you make these kind of excuses for 9/11?

Those two boys of 14 and 15 would have been classified as "fighting age males" if UK bombs had killed them in Iraq or Afghanistan. I hope your outrage extends to events in the modern day and you are not merely an apologist for imperialists whose outrage is reserved for those who resisted them.

If The Crown is any indication as to the history of this, that dude was closer to Charles than to Phillip.

So this apology really should be directed at Charles anyway.  And since he is still alive, it is not so worthless really.

But still, yeah...  Wait until Phillip is dead.  That's the time to do this.  dpoisn.com

I mean, just because we lost our farking minds here on 9/11 doesn't mean our response was sane or proportional.

We had been bombing and warring people in the middle east without any repercussions. It was literally inevitable; the most insane thing about 9/11 is not a single responsible adult said 'maybe we should stop these wars of resource aggression'

When you interpret revenge as an opening assault, you have the anger problem.

1.He was a notorious young boy molester, and everyone in the HigherUps knew about it.
2. He singlehandedly made sure that Gen Stilwell in Burma could make no real headway in defeating Japanese incursions, because ,he, Lord Mountbatten didn't want the States to gain undue influence over THEIR Jewel in the Crown, India....or some such...as

The bomb destroyed the boat, but he was actually recovered alive from the wreckage. His legs had almost been blown off though and he died of his injuries before being brought ashore.
