Yes. Cash helps alleviate poverty, whether we are talking about rural West Virginia or rural Niger. I assume Sen. Manchin supports this.

So it looks like IBT is now trying to appeal to the masses instead of Trumpers.  Still, Fark them and subby for linking them.  It was a trash website for the last 4 years and is dead to me.

Screw that, how about we work on improving pay and benefits so people want to work again? Literally everywhere I go people are hiring but no one's applying.

There's a simple market-based solution to this.

Ya, but that would involve corporations spending money, which they have no incentive to do yet.

Companies could offer a cheap perk and get a lot of applicants - a little paid time off for mandatory vaccination. Every employee gets 48 hours of paid time after each covid shot. Bring your card to HR to get the approval.

A lot of the mid-level white collar workers are waiting for things to settle down before returning. This would help that.

For the entry level and customer facing positions, enforce no mask no service rules. Yeah, it'll hurt in the super short term but you get a reputation of keeping people safe. The Costcos around me have a waiting list of applicants. The Sams Clubs have huge banners saying "Now hiring!"

People won't spend until they feel safe. Do that or we get another year of stagnation, masks, and death.

Lift out of poverty - temporarily, for most.  Universal basic income...  I am happy to have a completely capitalistic game to this simulation, as long as you have unlimited lives.

...and I stopped listening as soon as I heard the phrase "Democrat Party". If you are actually trying to provide information vs. attacking a concept, it's best to not start off by using pejorative names for the proponents of an idea.

My child is now an adult with autism, yet I am his sole supporter. My ex is required by the courts to pay $50 a week in financial maintenance (a term coined for special needs children who have aged out of child support at 19).

The problem is there is no way to enforce it because Chris Christie f'd over all kids, but especially special needs kids, right before he left office.

I won't receive the $150-300 per month until December and we could surely use it.

Let's do another stimulus check but only make it a small portion of the legislation and then say "if you don't support this bill you don't support helping out average americans" meanwhile the bill is stuffed full of political grift.

Which is precisely why the GOP will resist it as much as they possibly can.

They need to keep the poor people poor and afraid.  And then they need to be able to blame it on everyone else.

All of the skilled positions I have seen offered are temporary positions that offer no long-term security or have such an over inflated list of requirements but nobody can actually apply for them.

On the lower end of the scale most businesses are still offering poverty wages at best.

Small wonder people aren't jumping at the chance to work harder for the same old crumbs, only a little more stale.

It isn't supply side Jesus.

It's the application of Calvinism to daily life.

Essentially a bunch of Protestants were asked to leave Europe and they came to America.  They decided that they were God's elect.  They knew they were God's elect because they were economically successful.

Thus American style capitalism was born.

The whole thing is based on a bunch of hicks that were kicked out of Europe trying to show they were pre determined by God to be saved.

Crazy, the stimulus checks are proving effective! Almost like what economists predicted!

I wonder if we could just make the payments permanent, think of it a continously reliable income, something that's for everyone like, universal to the people.

We could call it the Rolling Stimulus package or something!
