Given the sales of RE 7 and the remakes of 2 and 3, I'd say the series is doing fine.

Given the amount of tall vampire lady memes coming out of the trailers alone I would say we are getting a Resident Evil 9 set on the moon with zombies vs werewolves...or something.

/R.E. 2-3 Remake are solid though, yo.

I'm sure the modding community and the soon to be released Pornhub videos of a 9 foot tall vampire woman will more then give rise to interest in the franchise.

That game in VR absolutely sold me on the tech. Even with the low-resolution PSVR it was immersive and stressful as hell. You could actually peek around corners and hear things coming up behind you.

As long as Capcom keeps reinventing the series every 4-5 games there's no reason it can't keep going.

Wouldn't surprise me.

RE:9, zombies vs werewolves.

RE:10, Umbrella invented a time machine, you go back to fight pirate zombies.

RE:11, you fight ninja zombies.

RE:12, you finally admit you have PTSD, go to a therapist, and fight your inner zombies.

Silent Hill is a series that could use a good push in a new direction.  Although knowing my luck the next Silent Hill game would be a first person shooter where you shoot sexy monster nurses instead of a tale of psychological horror.

The VR demo brought me back to childhood, terrified to go down into a dark dingy basement where I hear a slithering sound and I have no weapons

Playing RE 1 on GameCube made me scared to walk my dog at night!

Loved the series until 6.  That was the game that taught me to NOT buy a game I want on release day!

7 scared the bejesus out of me coontil you leave the house, that is)

I mean, they essentially did that to masterful effect with P.T., and we know what happened there. In an alternate universe we'd already be a couple of sequels in by now.

It's unfortunate that they don't want to deliver the best VR experience that's possible today. They have a low-end exclusivity problem with one VR RE a PSVR exclusive, and the next a Quest 2 exclusive.

Yep, I saw a headline "Upcoming Resident Evil VR game"
"Ok, I'm interested"
"...will be a Oculus Quest exclusive"
"Nevermind."

I wish they'd release the VR version for PC. It shouldn't be that hard to convert the code to OpenVR.

Was 7 the one in the house in the swamp? That was good. And I hadn't played 2 until the remake, but that was awesome, total throwback to the survival-horror of my youth--too much survival-horror these days doesn't get the blood pumping, there's too much health and ammo lying around.

Jedekai: / RE has sucked since 5. Nothing is changing that.

4 & 5 were action games, not survival horror, I don't remember much about 6 because I gave up halfway through.

But 7 is a genuinely scary/creepy game, at least the first half of it, then it turns into a typical Resident Evil shoot 'em up.
But at least ensured that I will consider 8.

Another good couple of games that I don't hear a lot about are The Evil Within.

I don't know how scary they are, but they are definitely atmospheric and fun games.

I bought the first one years ago, played one level and wasn't crazy about it and gave up. Then during the quarantine I went back through my backlog of games and decided to finish every game, even the ones I didn't like it first (like Alien Isolation)

Ended up loving the Evil Within so much, I bought the second one immediately. They are the only games in recent memory that I played through more than once, to make sure I got all of the secrets and collectibles etc.

Mega Man is weird.  Wizard and the Bruiser went into it, turns out there's a reliable but small market for it.

We all remember Mega Man on the NES being great. But subsequent titles didn't really move enough units. So eventually he got sidelined.

Which sucks because I like the universe, but that's games.

Still pissed at dragon quarter for ruining BoF's chances at a sequel.

7 is fantastic and made up for the overstuffed sh*tshow that was 6 (and 5, to a degree).

I might have to try it again, because I got annoyed at the first boss battle in the... hospital, I think? and never went back to it. It felt like a more action-oriented version of Dead Space, which was AMAZING for the first and second games until they ditched the slow, scary atmosphere in 3.

That is EXACTLY where I stopped playing it originally.

Then during lockdown I said "I am determined to finish this" and the more I got into it, the more I loved it.

Universe was killed rather specifically when Keiji Inafune walked out of Capcom. Same for Legends/DASH 3. Shame though as it would have beaten Mario Maker to the market by nearly half a decade.

/Body is sufficiently ready for Resident Castlevania

I miss Megaman, really would have liked another megaman legends game but sadly it'll never come to be.

20xx and 30xx at least let me scratch that itch a bit.
