I like Arby's fish sandwich the best. YMMV.

The answer is Burgerville.

because they use halibut.

Arby's has the best one in my opinion.

Just moved to the midwest, and have to say - spot on about the Culvers.  It is a far better fish sandwich than a fast food restaurant has any right to sell.

Here in California we have The Habit burger chain, which my whole family enjoys.  They have a sushi grade tuna sandwich i can recommend if you enjoy fresher rather than fried.

I was going to say the list fails without Burgerville

still feeling stupid for not getting Moar Popeyes before the deadline, hoping they'll bring it back.

I like Arby's one well enough. Checkers too, although both their breading and bun are oddly-oversweet. still haven't tried the Wendy's, but there are a couple near us.

after the 2nd or 3rd Popeyes epic-fail, I resorted to cannibalism er... constructing it my-ownself:

Well, that's what you get for your ketchup bs in the other thread :)

Culver's walleye is really good, but I don't think it's got that shatteringly crispy mom n pop on a lake in Wisconsin breading. That said...

I'd really like a place that could do a grilled and or blackened fish sammich. Like this mebbe

The only thing that bums me out about Burgerville is when stopping through the P-town area in winter is NO ONION RINGS!

Dog dang their walla walla sweet onion rings are the best.

One month old article. Lent's over.

Every couple of years, I'll succumb to getting fast food. When that happens, seafood is the last thing on my mind.

A Culver's is currently being built in my area - our first, in fact.  When it's built and the burn-in period has ended I'll definitely be checking it out, as I hear about it on Fark all the time as some kind of fastfood Nirvana (not the band).

Since there doesn't appear to be a Burgerville within 2,500 miles of me (halibut sounds really good) I'll have to go with Culvers.

CSB:  we timed our drive on Friday to put us at the nearest Burgerviille a little before noon, just in time to beat the worst of the lunch rush.  I spent the next four and a half hours with my attention divided between avoiding idiot WA drivers and thinking about my halibut sandwich with truffle shoestring fries.  We arrive in The Dalles, only to find BV's dining room closed (COVID) and an impossible line of cars stretching into the street.. it was a disappointing day.

We'll get another opportunity tomorrow, but my expectations are low.

Fond memories of H. Salt Fish and Chips*.  Haven't had a fish sandwich in decades. Maybe next time we hit Burgerville, but Salem doesn't have one.  Monmouth does, so maybe when we go there for my wife's second Moderna dose next month.

*Although I miss their coleslaw the most.

I don't care how many places do it, but...

Cheese does NOT belong on a fish sandwich!

Lotsa Culver's love, is it getting the In-n-Out type of interest because it's still fairly regional? It's good, don't get me wrong. But I'd rather have Portillo's any day over Culver's.

F me, I haven't had a Portillo's burger in 15 months.

Popeyes. I really hope they add it to the menu and it is not just a promo ( its a promo due to go away in May ) .

same! right down to the burger! there'a a portillos in tampa, but i haven't been since the before times....

and for fast-food-fish the portillos grilled ahi tuna ain't too shabby either.

It's been at least 50 years but NOTHING has come close to H.Salt's battered fish. I remember the look, smell and above all the TASTE like it was yesterday.

That's the worst thing about fast-food fish sandwiches; that most of them are seasonal - February to whenever they run out of stock after Easter. Some people just like fish and don't need any sort of spiritual mandate to eat it. So bothersome.

wait, really, May? I'd read that it would end on Easter. huh, it is in fact still on their website, though! but not on seamless/grubhub or doordash (which is odd, since the Popeyes website uses doordash)

then again, the Popeyes website was something like fails #2 and #3 on my previous attempts.

It's likely available until they run out of stock, and they won't restock the fish after Easter, so May is a ballpark estimate.

The posters in the windows  say  display until 09May ( I might be a day or so off here ) . Every store that I have been to says they are rather popular, so , like the chicken sammich- it might be beyond a limited promotion. I hope so.

ah, clever you! I'd not have thought to look at that. and yes, let us hope!

both the failed time I phoned ahead and they said "yeah we got the fish-meat!" ...except going through the drive-thru ~10 minutes after my call, they did not have the fish-meat - and the partial-fail time (no pickles!) when we went to a different restaurant in-person and the cashier yelled to the back, "hay do we got any fish-meat!!!" - lol, I love how they call it that, I wonder if it's in a policy/training binder or something?

lol! could be, could be! only lived here 3-4 years, so I'm definitely unsure much of the bizarre vernacular!

heck, I'm still amazed-beyond-amazeballs that the fish-hoagie is so popular here. and even more amazed that it's not cod or flounder or haddock or hake or halibut or...etc. - it's whiting! now, I personally love me some whiting, but it definitely has a much stronger fishy taste than any of the above.

I imagine you are right about the American marketing push for fish here, but there are also many more Catholics here than Orthodox. Meat is supposed to be off the menu for the entirety of Orthodox Lent--not just Fridays. Seafood is allowed, so the Orthodox probably eat a lot more fish than do Catholics during Lent.

Damn, people... the only thing that makes frozen fast food fish meat palatable is the "sauce", which is mainly fat, salt and acid.
Eat what you want, but don't pretend this is food, much less healthy food.

I agree sorta? I mean if it's a flaky saltwater whitefish you can tell if its total crap. Walleye otoh is delicate and it's nigh impossible to find frozen. Have you had it?

One thing I like about our local chain is that the fish - both sandwich and with chips - comes with the sauce on the side. It's a good grade of battered halibut which needs no embellishment other than maybe lemon juice.

that one, he simply LOVES to hate things. kinda a real edgy guy, i guess?

the challenge would be to find things he uncritically LOVES without any attempted snark. pretty sure he's WAY too edgy for unfettered joy without worrying about how it makes him look......

it's easy to judge people for what they love or even like, so genuinely liking things can be bold. that's why edgelords and "ironic" hipsters are so good at hating on things......

dorks and fools and nerds love things, cool edgelords never feel joy in anything but hate and snark. and that's pretty damn sad!

if there's one thing I learned from my own little former-idiots, they can be pretty farking determined. (as mentioned, eating: gravel, plastic-plants, corkwood, lol. plecos, however, are pretty slow/lethargic, so the little jerks spent almost a week just taking bites out of the fish)

to me, the difference mainly depends on if the fast food fish is pieces-parts or actually-real whole filets (although, look, I'll still happily eat both/either, modulo-mood)

man, I would totally punch a baby if'n it meant I could buy frozen Walleye from the supermarche 'round-hyeah. think the best I've ever had was a Penguins tailgate in Pittsburgh, my Uncle had brought an actual deep-fryer, and fish he'd caught himself just the day before, in Lake Erie.
