First thing I thought of when I read that headline.

What happened to the Big Mac? Did I just get older and require better burgers or did they change it from when I was younger? Had a craving for one last year so went to McD's. I don't drink soda and am not a big fry guy so just wanted the sandwich. It was over six bucks and crappy.

Not doing it again as I think I can add thousand Island dressing and a sesame bun to my homemade burgers easily enough.

their prices seem farking criminal sometimes. I mean, I love the filet-o-fish as a guilty pleasure, like some kind of fish-crack-addict. but 5-6 bucks just for the sammich alone? seriously? back when they sometimes had the fish at a 2-for-5 promotion, the wife and I would start this bizarre months-long chain of: just once, buy 2 fish sammiches; fill out the survey from the receipt; grants you a free fish, so next time you get 3-for-5. &c. &c.

I don't recall the exact "hack" b/c I never tried it, but for a Big Mac it was something like: order a McDouble (or Double Cheeseburger) with lettuce, and mac-sauce instead of ketchup/mustard. from what I recall, YMMV whether they upcharge you for the mac-sauce or not. but either way still ends up costing less. no middle bun ofc, no sesame seeds, but, eh. or I think there was similar advice to get 2 cheeseburgers or 2 quarter-pounders when on sale, and make the same request. plus you're likely to get fresher made-to-order food, which should help?

The only McDonalds location that is legitimately elegant is the one near the Spanish Steps in Rome.

There is one by the Biltmore estate that brings your food to your table, has a piano playing and a fireplace. It is very fancy.

I've never gone into one, but walking past, European McDonalds joints in general seem pretty well maintained. Due to building aesthetic codes, many are required to be in existing structures which gives them a posh veneer. I've never looked at a McDonald's in Europe and thought, "There's probably a murdered drifter in the bathroom."

Get the kids meal. It's like 5 buck and includes a small drink, very small fry (about 12 frys), fruit and A TOY.
It's almost always better to bundle at McD's

The most beautiful McDs is like the most delectable rat turd. It might be encrusted in elegant breading served on fine china with a wonderful dipping sauce, but it's still a rat turd.

It's called Trump Paradise. Tip o' the hat to Ambitwistor for the illustration of what such a thing might look like.

There is a McDs built into a nice looking house in Freeport Maine, just down the road from LL Bean. Don't know the story behind the non standard building, but I suspect the town told them what their building needed to look like if they wanted to build there.

I just can't imagine being invited to visit the White House and being served ice-cold congealed fast food garbage.

There's a great twitter account called "Non-standard McDonald's" which showcases all the wacky variations of McDonald's restaurants that have existed around the world.

I've always lived or worked if not both within a 10 mile radius of there with and I've been to it here and there my whole life. Article neglected how it's on an extremely ugly stretch of road with a decent amount of industrial shiat in the immediate area so it stands out for much more than just being a McDonald's. Too bad its uglyass neighbors are blocked out by uglyass tractor trailers in this GSV.
