Any and all progress that was made in the last year is now lost.  Ford surprised many of us with genuine leadership for the first half of this pandemic, but he's been fumbling the ball ever since.

His staunch assholish stance on paid sick leave is literally killing people now.  For anyone here in Ontario who's faced with a decision to either work while sick or go unpaid please look into the federal CSRB first as an option:

This government has got to go.

It's crazy seeing his own Covid science council forcibly push back on his assertions that this was unforseen. We are living their projections from February.

Which consisted of doing what Public Health told him to do, and then saying don't blame me, it's all on Public Health. He knows who his base is and they're the nutters that don't want a lockdown.

The Ford fiasco has finally shown up.  The guy is an idiot, we would have done much better with anyone else.  So much "watch me, I'll get things done"  Then absolutely nothing or steps backward. And a blamer, that's the worst.  Everything is everybody else's fault.

It's a gift -- this time of COVID.

Once in a while you see a government function as it always does, but that once in a while you really need it to actually work.  They are clueless that this one time is different and serious.

You hear all the expected lies, all the excuses for not acting, for not taking experts seriously, for wishing the rug was bigger so everything could be sweetly under it.  But this time it's different.

It's happening everywhere.  The reactors are not planners.  They don't like planners.

Step on up all of the idiots who proudly voted for the party led by Premier Buck-A-Beer, the party with no costed platform and vague election promises of "no carbon tax!" and "buck-a-beer".

Despite doctors pleading for paid sick days for months now, we have a government that refuses to act in the best interests of Ontarians and would prefer to cater to their wealthy donors instead, steadfastly refusing to shutdown non-essential construction (and then laughably labeling almost everything as essential construction when they finally do begrudgingly act), refusing to close schools, and refusing to do anything about warehouses and factories despite construction sites, schools, and packed warehouses and factories all contributing significantly to our current wave.  Enjoy the reintroduction of carding instead, a measure so stupid that most of the municipal and regional police forces in this province immediately came out and stated that they have no intention of enforcing it.

Exult in it, OPC voters.  You earned this "victory lap" that only resulted in thousands of deaths and human misery.  Hope those fleeting buck-a-beers were worth it.

Australia, NZ, etc. managed to do that. Are you suggesting that North American governments should adopt those strategies? Or do you just want all of those benefits with none of the effort?

The government here keeps getting dumber and dumber it seems. Yesterday they put out new lockdown measures which included public parks being closed and police starting to pull people over to make sure they were going somewhere essential. By this morning police departments said they would be doing no such thing and public health people said parks were important, especially for people's mental health especially those who lived in apartments. And within 24 hours those orders were taken back.

So how the hell is anyone supposed to have any faith in a government that can't even bother to coordinate with cops before they say that kind of thing? And how are people who don't follow the news closely supposed to keep track of what the actual lockdown rules are?

Not even 1/2.

IIRC, voter turnout in 2018 was around 60% of eligible voters.  Of that 60%, 40% of those (so 24% of the total eligible voters in the province) voted OPC.  Thanks to FPP, the OPCs got the plurality they needed for a majority, which is why the earliest we'll be rid of crackhead Rob's older brother is next year, unless the trained seals in the OPCs decide to have Dougie removed earlier and that's not going to happen.

2021-04-17 10:49:40 PM
Oh, look, yet another Canadian 'pro-business' government decided to put the interests of inanimate corporate persons and (generally foreign) shareholders ahead of the interests of actual living Canadians. News at 11.

Ontarians not voting for wealth concentrationists would have prevented this.

Canada not admitting so many bigots social conservative immigrants would have helped with that.

More recently, shutting down the province before the hospitals overflowed would have prevented this. Everyone who has been taught about exponential growth curves knows this.

Several other things would have helped, too: the Americans not directing a previous quisling government to shut down Canadian vaccine production capacity.  Also, the Americans exporting the one in three US-manufactured vaccine shots that are going to waste because the Trump Humpers don't want them. Prioritizing the needs of your own citizens first is one thing but prioritizing the needs of your garbage cans is quite another.

In any normal province where political parties are competitive, Doug would be done.

But who are voters going to vote for? Horwath? Del Duca?

The problem is that Ontario has had a leadership vacuum in all its political parties for a loooong time, well before Doug Ford came along. Which means Doug's staying.

The 40% who didn't vote implicitly voted for the winner .

If they didn't like that, they could have voted against them. They didn't, so they're good with that.

Elections have consequences. If you blow them off, you deserve EVERYTHING that that government does to you, because you did nothing to stop it.

The twits running my province are in much the same boat.
They don't want to believe reality so they do their best to ignore it and then blammo, turns out that was a bad idea. Even when they have another location that's making our same screwups, slightly before us so we can see exactly how it turns out, they decide to go do the same idiotic thing.

I agree.  Those who abstained from voting (which is not the same thing as either spoiling or declining your ballot as those are far more valid ways to voice your displeasure with the slate of candidates) contributed to this mess as well.
