Once again, Big Jesus is trying to maintain its monopoly on blood that grants eternal life by making you feel bad about tapping into more abundant natural sources.

8 inches: The Count of Monte Cristo is my absolute all-time favorite movie, so this saddens and depresses me.

There's a seventies made for tv version with Richard Chamberlain that beats it hands down.  (Donald Pleasance and Louis Jourdan is a high bar to clear for the villains) Or the definitive version is the black and white with Robert Donat.  Or if you really want hipster cred, try the French TV version with Gerard Depardieu. And his nose!

How illiterate do you have to be to not know that adrenochrome was a fictional creation of Hunter S. Thompson? The man was as far away from right-wing christian as one can be without being a mass murdering dictator.

While you're correct that HST absolutely despised conservatives, mass murdering dictator is to pretty on brand for christianity so that wasn't the best of contrasts.

Eh.  Malick went overboard there.  Just a tad(and by a tad I mean a lot)

On the other hand, Frequency and the Count of Monte Cristo were both pretty good.  Deja Vu was fun.

The problem with Jim is that he doesn't stick out.  Frequency was pretty good and had a chance to be a lot better if Caviezel and Dennis Quaid weren't the two leads, given that they're both just so boring.  That kind of works for Edmond Dantes, though, since Dantes isn't some dashing hero, he just pretends to be despite being more of just an above average guy, and he does a good job of making that shine through in the film.

Funny thing about Deja Vu is that he's apparently playing himself, since his character is a crazy anti-government right-wing terrorist who thinks he's a patriot

RasIanI: Too much of anything is good for nothing. Including crazy catholicism

I think the Pope has opinions about calling that Catholicism.

/so would just about every nun and priest I've spent more than ten minutes with
//my parents were careful not to expose me to the crazies, sure, but the overwhelming position of the clergy is 'f*ck that nonsense' for a reason--that American council of Bishops are openly in defiance of Church position half the time.

it actually is a real chemical, formed from the oxidization of adrenaline.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrenochrome

It's a neurotoxin that can lead to schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions characterized by breaks with reality.

So, HST was probably giving credit to adrenochrome as a psychotropic, rather than a toxin.

He is a good, if particularly typed, actor. Brooding, subtle, soulful, wounded ... that kind of shiat. Can't picture him in a buddy comedy. But WTF? I guess he'll get a lot of straight to video work and be trotted out for paying da-da-derp live political gigs.
