Eh, we have decent statistics on overall death rate to know the numbers aren't too far off. Florida can mis-label a few thousand and get away with it for a while, but overall it's a low amount.

Russia has by all accounts seen a COVID outbreak as bad as US, they just aren't admitting anything.

Once (if ever) the pandemic is over enough ....looking at resources use by country and recovery to prior GDP will reveal the real deaths by country.

When you compare the US average death rate to last years death rate and adjust for Covid, aren't we overaverage by at least 200k?

I think a more accurate thing to say is the USA has been more open then some of the other countries that have been hard hit.

Seriously, does anyone actually believe China - which was ground Zero -has only had 4,600 dead?

The real global death toll is MUCH higher than 3 million

You mean to say that MyPillows are a source of COVID infection? I heard a rumor like that about MyPillow, too. There has been a spike in COVID cases in Minnesota, where MyPillows are made.  I guess those chunks of old foam that MyPillow company recovers from old couches and stuffs into MyPillows could harbor all sorts of bugs, like COVID-19. I hope MyPillow starts using better disinfection methods on their MyPillows, as we wouldn't want the MyPillow company to continue spreading any more COVID to MyPillow workers and MyPillow customers.

China was welding the doors shut in apartment buildings with outbreaks in Feb 2020. I'm sure they aren't sharing everything but they exercised the full power of an authoritarian regime to lock that shiat down early.

1) if covid detected its in the death stat whether it was really the cause of death or not
2) we record all cases with accuracy
3) our "white privilege" and "racist" country attracts immigrants by the millions, how do you think it got here
4) our good standards of living for decades leads to more older people, and this is an older person deadly disease
5) we dont hide figures from the world like China where the virus originated

That pretty much explains our numbers.  I wonder, for instance, the horde of children dropped off at our borders arent because mom and dad died of covid?

Yes.

"In China, you have a combination of a population that takes respiratory infections seriously and is willing to adopt non-pharmaceutical interventions, with a government that can put bigger constraints on individual freedoms than would be considered acceptable in most Western countries", adds Poland. "Commitment to the greater good is engrained in the culture; there is not the hyper-individualism that characterises parts of the USA, and has driven most of the resistance to the countermeasures against the coronavirus." Poland noted that the Chinese accept the notion that disease control is a matter of science. "China does not have the kind of raucous anti-vaccine, anti-science movement that is trying to derail the fight against COVID-19 in the USA", he said.

They also don't have many nursing homes.

The real reason for these deaths is underlying conditions. Specifically type 2 diabetes and heart disease. America being the fattest nation on earth has such a high mortality rate because of this.

They also have little land to bury the dead, and loads of crematoriums to burn the eviden- er, bodies. Those crematoriums were working overtime.

New Mexico hit 4,000 deaths yesterday.  Out of a population of 2,000,000.  It seems people are mistaken high vaccination levels for herd immunity, which won't happen for another month or so.  So infections and deaths are going up again.  At least the Navajo Nation is doing the right thing.

China does not have an "anti-science movement" because the state determines what 'the science' means on behalf of the people, and you don't want to be anti-state in China.

I was referring to patient zero in China. Someone had this virus in it's original form and it most likely circulated through a population of people before it mutated enough to be what it is right now. There could have been a few, a few dozen, or even a few hundred, or even a few thousand people that this virus spread through when it was not even close to being deadly. People who had no symptoms, or had such slight symptoms as to be entirely ignored. Only when it flared up and started killing people with lung complications did it become noticeable.

They did the very thing that conservatives feared would happen when they heard "lockdown".  Everybody else did half-assed lockdowns and quarantines and shutdowns.  The Navajo Nation, the Pueblos, and from what I've heard other various reservations throughout the west all set up roadblocks at the borders, checked IDs and residency, verified letters authorizing travel, and handed out hefty fines to anybody driving without a damned good reason.  And instituted curfews and reduced hours of operation for all businesses.  And made masks mandatory, with actual enforcement.
