Hey AirBnB people, seems you've been leaving money on the table eh?  I mean come on these corpses don't use any utilities, they definitely won't throw parties and they're quiet enough you can even host them while you're home.  Heck you could probably stack them floor to ceiling in your kids' rooms without any issues.

You know it's a great idea when you have to explain there's no law against it.

Yeah, nothing dystopian about this at all. Japan has a serious poverty problem and it's getting worse. The wealth gap here is becoming quietly enormous.

Itaru Takeda, head of Kasouken, an association of research initiatives for cremation, funeral, and cemetery studies in Tokyo, says that trouble could be avoided with local residents by establishing legal parameters to operate mortuaries if they just minded their bidness.

Fixed.

That makes you the corpse since you occasionally stayed there. And I do mean occasionally. What color were the drapes?

I realized the implication of my statement.  But to answer your question, the drapes were grey, like the deep winter of a hopeless soul.

I'd rather live next to a morgue than a hotel.  At least the guests wouldn't keep me up late with loud music and drunken partying.

I hope.

One house we considered when moving across country 20 years ago had a lot that backed up against a cemetery. Both Hubby & I liked it and we liked the idea of no noisy neighbors. Even the fact they cemetery was building a high-rise casket condo didn't bother us. The house was in the final 5 for bidding (we wound up buying #3). Cemeteries are not a problem for us, but we recognize that some people won't want to buy next door to a funeral home or cemetery if and when we'd go to sell. If you like having a quiet neighborhood, especially behind your house, look around cemeteries. Just remember there might be daily traffic to deal with near funeral homes when they are lining-up the corteges for the processions to wherever, or people will park in front of your house nearly daily.

The carpet was worn bald by the time I moved in.  There were rumors from past occupants that it used to be vibrant, but I assumed such talk was mostly nostalgia with very little fact.

Perhaps to foster acceptance of this idea they should make a Japanese comedy movie called...

"Weekend (then the following week, and week after week after that) at Bernie-san's"
