When Biden actually farks up, as he did here, it deserves a green.

When Biden does things Republicans don't like and submitters post garbage threads from the NY Post about it, they should and often do get shiatcanned.

Why can't do undo the crap Trump did and fix it in a 100 days. Waaaahaaa Waaahaa.

Complete, indefensible bullsh*t.

Undoing a lot of this crap is also dependent on undoing GOP seats in the house and senate.
And even the farken POST OFFICE board of Governors, which probably won't happen in Biden's term.

Undoing the refugee cap is not. This is entirely up to and within Biden's power to do. He is choosing not to. He's breaking a promise for no good reason. Even if all you cared about was politics, this isn't even a good move politically! This is straight bullsh*t.

Biden is on pace to resettle the fewest refugees in the history of the program. But there's also another stunning precedent being set here: he is now the first occupant of the WH to reverse his own "Presidential Determination" on the # of refugees his Admin plans to resettle. 1/

- Jonathan Blitzer (@JonathanBlitzer) April 16, 2021

On Feb 12, the Secretary of State notified Congress that the Admin planned to resettle 62.5K refugees for the current fiscal year. That number wasn't a campaign promise or a general aspiration. It reflected an elaborate, inter-agency sign-off from State, HHS, DHS, and NSC. 2/

- Jonathan Blitzer (@JonathanBlitzer) April 16, 2021

It was vetted, analyzed, and approved by every government stakeholder involved in the resettlement process. And the logic was crystal-clear: the Admin said that the # was "justified by grave humanitarian concerns and is in the national interest." 3/

- Jonathan Blitzer (@JonathanBlitzer) April 16, 2021

One thing that's so baffling abt today's news is that it plainly exposes the President himself calling an audible. He's overriding his own people & their own process. In terms of "political optics"--to say nothing of policy or morals--it betrays a jarring level of skittishness.

This is within the power of the president to handle. It's why Trump was able to do this without congress before.

You can't keep hiding behind the shiattiness of republicans every time our side farks up

So much for the "open borders" we were promised.

I guess I shouldn't count on the 650 million illegals Trump said would flood in.

Not to mention the lack of taco trucks on every corner.

Just stepped in dog shiat, Joe.

Fix this.

They're planning to set it to the promised 125k next year (a 8-10x increase)

It's still unacceptable that they're delaying it at all. A lot of people will be affected in the meantime. I was told there would be no malarkey.

2021-04-16 3:39:40 PM
As y'all might know, I'm a big Biden fan.  This is bullshiat.

There has to be some internal rationale for it, not sure if it's a good one though.

2021-04-16 3:40:02 PM
More immigration is unpopular among all kinds of Americans right now.

It will get much more unpopular when the climate refugees show up.

Oh, c'mon, man - that's malarkey

We are in the middle of a deadly global pandemic. If there was ever a reason to ban immigration this would be it

And where do you suggest these people be housed?
Also, it's imperative to get to WHY these people are risking their lives crossing the boarder. And work with Mexico and Guatemala to create policies that lessen that issue. Which is something Trump failed to do or consider.

And recognize that every imagination is a individual. Like Trump yanking the 'dreamers' act because Hey nasty immigrant.

I would say back of on that "Biden is bad" Trump chant. But guess what...if the issue is legit and there's some immediate actionable issue the Biden Administration can actually physically do, then let them know. They're at least listening.

Impeach him.

Problem solved.

2021-04-16 3:42:05 PM
Already people jumping to his defense.

The correct number for a refugee cap is infinity. There is no moral excuse for turning away refugees.

So I'm one of the dirtiest moderates around, but from everything I can tell this particular decision doesn't seem to me like a 'benefit of the doubt' situation.

I'm not saying that the decision should be presumed nefarious, but I am saying it should require actual justification.

You're conflating people seeking asylum at the border with the refugee system. They are two different systems.

If Trump weren't the alternative I'd regret my vote. As it stands.... I guess... I regret that our society ever reached an agrarian stage of development... It seems unfixable from any point after that.

There's got to be an angle here. I can't think of one unless he's caving to right-wing-media fear mongering we've been hearing endlessly for the last couple months, some sort of political triangulation for the midterms... in which case... Not a good look Joe. I'm hoping there is a good reason, but I'll be damned if I can think of one.

Something I didn't read in the article, is the infrastructure in place to accept thousands and thousands of more refugees? An NPR story a few weeks ago said no.

2021-04-16 3:45:47 PM
Obama 35% Biden 28%

Biden's refugee cap is lower than Obama's.

Biden opposes ending the filibuster to push through a minimum wage increase and most of his priorities.

/Conservatives love this

///Progressives just say "I told you so."

Are they reversing because of the optics with what's going on at the border?

Because fark that, and fark Fox News et al for setting the narrative.

JFC RTFA they are NOT putting a hard cap on it and will revisit it later in the year.  And they're loosening other restrictions from the Trump era to make it easier to come here.  They say they're trying to undo the Trump era sabotage and rebuild the infrastructure to raise the cap.

I know many of you are waiting eagerly for Biden to fark up and prove your "Biden = Trump" narrative from last year but this is not it.

For those caught up with the Trump rule by impulse decree, America doesn't run that way.  Lots of people came in through New Orleans and Galveston, and many Europeans came across the Mexican border -- sometimes just because not all the Atlantic sea traffic landed on the northeastern shores.

Immigration in the aftermath of a pandemic is a product of the pandemic, something which went missing from the Trump "plan"  but it's kind of a big deal.
