YES! You reap what you sow, you want free rights, well guess what they come with consequences.

2021-04-16 1:12:47 PM
Canceled? Can we stop calling it that? How about, instead, we ask, "Should she face the consequences of her actions?"

And the answer is a resounding F*CK YES.

After the district found no proof that Hostetter had entered the Capitol on Jan. 6

Aaaaand that's where I lost interest in this "story".

2021-04-16 1:15:27 PM
The FBI says they have no evidence that she breached the Capitol. So it comes down to a 1st Amendment issue. As odious as this woman may be, that's a slope we shouldn't get on.

But then there's this WaPo comment:

"Here's a thought:  maybe the reason so many of us 'leftists' are ready to 'cancel' persons like this--who evidently have no critical thinking skills, however competent they are in their professions--is that seemingly NO ONE ELSE is holding them accountable.  The only way to hold them accountable is through the penalty of social ostracism.  These colossal idiots who bought into the Protofascist Buffoon's deranged narrative of a stolen election need to understand that there is, in fact, a penalty for sedition."

OY! Don't go actually read the story and ruin a good time!

She is also heavily involved in the American Phoenix Project, an anti-lockdown, anti-mask, pro-Trump group founded by her husband, Alan Hostetter.

The real reason this person shouldn't be around kids.

Yeah I'd say her overall personal conduct should weigh more on her employment situation than not breaking the law at the Capitol.

The correct answer is no

Eat shiat, Helaine. How can she teach from prison anyhow?

Sorry, but you cannot simultaneously be a "competent" educator AND an anti-science cult member. If your religion, even if it's a non-theistic secular religion, is at odds with the skills you are expected to be teaching, AND you have demonstrated that your religion is a higher priority than your responsibility to your charges, then you cannot be expected to teach well.

In prison for what exactly?

She should be held to the same standards. Being a 4th grade teacher is not a mitigating factor.

Yep. "Should we throw out a legal election?" is a simple question of opinion with no real stakes involved for anybody.

Though she didn't break any laws, she took part in an event that was trying to overturn a legal election. I hate to see people lose their jobs, but I have no sympathy for her, because her bad choices causes her suffering.

2021-04-16 1:53:55 PM
By 'merely' attending the rally, she lent support to 'the big lie' - the dangerous notion that Joe Biden somehow did not legitimately win the presidential election - in doing so she gave aid and succor to traitors, and promoted the ideas that formed the core of the motivation to assault the capitol
As such she had violated the public trust and should no longer enjoy the trusted role of teaching our children

The tendency to punish private thoughts or actions threatens not just the Kristine Hostetters of the world, but also it puts everyone at risk.

Agreed. So where does that put someone publicly marching on the Capitol?

2021-04-16 1:58:31 PM
FTA: Probably without realizing it, some on the left are imitating the right, which despite its newfound horror over cancel culture, has long embraced such actions.  It was only a few years ago that the anti-Trump resistance was up in arms at a woman losing her job after flashing her middle finger at a Trump motorcade.

Comparing flipping the bird at the presidential motorcade to protesting a legitimate transfer of power in a democratic country is the most disingenuous argument I've heard from a hot-take Republican apologist in AT LEAST the last 15 minutes

2021-04-16 1:58:54 PM
She attended a political rally, but they found no evidence that she entered the Capitol. Which means she didn't break any laws and engaged in her Constitutionally protected rights to free speech and assembly.

This is a complete non-story. No she doesn't deserve to be "cancelled," or lose her job because she went to a political rally. if you think that's appropriate, then you better be ok with it when you get cancelled if the pendulum swings and the people you hate/disagree with are the ones doing the cancelling and getting people fired from their jobs.

Also, go ahead and punish her at her job, she'll sue the fark out of the district and win, then all the parents are gonna be wondering why their Superintendent was so stupid as they're paying double in book rental fees the next year to pay for it.

2021-04-16 1:59:01 PM
If she were interviewing for a teaching job, and her resume included "Tried to overturn a legal election and overthrow the US government" wouldn't that be a deal-killer?  So now that she already has the job, why wouldn't that still be a deal-killer?

If you cheered as Colin Kaepernick was demonized for peacefully speaking out against police brutality, you aren't allowed to complain about "cancel culture".

Some are being held accountable, at least to the terms of their release pending their court appearance.

Holding the position that Trump lost the election due to massive and organized election fraud is not a "disagreement" of political opinion.

It's a racist lie. And if you believe it, you're a racist. Not to mention anti-American.

FFS the FIRST paragraph is nonsense:

Kristine Hostetter is a competent fourth-grade teacher. No one disputes that students both enjoy and benefit from their time in her San Clemente, Calif., classroom. She is also heavily involved in the American Phoenix Project, an anti-lockdown, anti-mask, pro-Trump group founded by her husband, Alan Hostetter.

If she spent her free time banging guys for cash or shooting up or, as in this case, attempting to overthrow a democratically elected government, she would have no business near a classroom no matter how "competent" she is.

What's more; involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection should at bare minimum disqualify any participants from a career in education as they clearly can't even employ basic critical thinking skills for themselves, much less pass them on to children.

2021-04-16 2:00:13 PM
No, she does not deserve to lose her job and those off you who think she does have brainwashed yourselves to believe that all Trump supporters are bad and need to be punished. Sticking it to the conservatives.

Anyone who believes that legally protesting on the capitol mall deserves any punishment is thinking that because you don't like the topic. Well too bad. Even douchebags get to shout out their dumb agenda in America.

2021-04-16 2:01:31 PM
No, she should not be fired for attending the protest, not if she didn't breach the capitol.  Find proof of that and go ahead and arrest her.

Should she be fired if she decided not to follow or teach district policies regarding health & safety requirements?  Yes.  But I don't know what those policies are.

Well she broke through the barriers so they got her at least on trespassing, and get her for some riot related charges maybe. But maybe not some of the bigger charges. Wish they would nail more of these people, even the little fish. After all they are part of the party of law and order and they always seem to want swift harsh punishment for other people. I am sure they would like it applied equally to them as well.

Unless you're going to start calling murderers and rapists who do jail time "canceled", stop farking using that term.  Facing consequences for actions isn't being canceled.

Also, just dust off all the reasons you fire teachers for side-hustling in porn and realize they apply moreso to overthrowing democracy.

2021-04-16 2:09:08 PM
I can't read through the paywall, but if she was one of those who were beyond the barricades, or in the building, she's not being canceled. She is suffering the consequences of her actions.

These platitudes being thrown around are disingenuous at best. These turds are behaving in the manner that they say the Libs act. Every accusation is a confession, I suppose.

2021-04-16 2:09:28 PM
Word got around when Kristine Hostetter was spotted at a public mask-burning at the San Clemente pier, and when she appeared in a video sitting onstage as her husband spoke at a QAnon convention. People talked when she angrily accosted a family wearing masks near a local surfing spot, her granddaughter in tow.

Sounds like a great teacher!
