The stupid trash rubber stamped every dumbass move GWB made. Right up until he tried to do immigration reform. Then, his own republican congress turned on him. He went too far by not proposing a racist enough immigration policy.

Fark George W. Bush, fark every horse he might conceivably ever consider riding in on, and fark every single person who attempts to add to the "he really wasn't that bad of a president" narrative. Equally, fark all of those things.

His proposed immigration reform was better than anything we have seen before or since.

For whatever else he did wrong, he was more right about immigration than basically everyone.

Anybody who's gullible enough to whitewash George W. Bush's administration is going to be gullible enough to whitewash Trump's administration, too.

George W Bush is a disgusting war criminal that launched an illegal war and he is directly responsible for the deaths of over 100,000 Iraqis and over 4,000 Americans (conservative estimate).

He should be shunned by American society for the rest of his awful life.

I've said it before, and I stand by it to this very day: As a president, GW Bush was a solid amateur portraitist.

I know this won't be trusted or believed by our Socialst-Progressive contingent, but GW Bush, despite being an inveterate corrupt war-mongering daddy's boy incompetent idiot on every other subject, nonetheless struck a very sober, rational, and fair tone on immigration.

Unlike the Trumpers, who see immigrants as direct competition to the White Way of Life, the Bush contingent, having already made their fortunes, saw no issue with immigration reform, at least for a Republican. Their reasoning was that there were many parts of the Latin American vote that skewed Republican already, and it could overlap with the Evangelical vote at times.  They weren't wrong.

His family's no stranger to Latin-American relations - heck, his brother married a Colombian and chain-migrated her into the USA.

If involving a former GOP President helps divide the GOP such that it becomes easier to pass some immigration reforms, good. Politics is the art of compromise. There are GOP interests that want the labor supply. Work with them if it helps to pass some immigration reform. If they can't help, then screw them, I have no special reason to cater to them. But if they can help, then use their help.

Not sure how old you are but he got voted in on the sentiment "I can imagine sitting down for a beer with him!".

I don't really drink beer. And his administration was more evil than Trump's (Steven Miller being a probable exception) even if Bush himself was probably significantly less evil personally than Trump.

Even though going after the Latino vote was good long-term strategery, it failed in the short term. As someone already mentioned:

Then, his own republican congress turned on him. He went too far by not proposing a racist enough immigration policy.

Oh, I know that. I wasn't attacking you, just being outwardly incredulous. The idea of wanting a president you can have a beer with is so far beyond anything I can comprehend.

2000 and 2004 were the first elections I could vote in. Younger people were born into a world where nothing has really ever worked, and it's just been getting worse. We don't have the luxury of some kind of nostalgia for a better time. It's never existed in our lifetimes.

He left office with a 28% approval rating, plunged from the 40%ish range.  Why?  He supported the dream act.

All the right wing nutsos (especially Lou Dobbs.  That's when he went off the deep end into crazy town) used that opportunity to hate his guts.

The key difference between George Bush and Donald Trump is when George Bush paints he uses a canvas, some paints, and brushes. When Donald Trump paints, he uses whatever waste is produced by drinking diet coke and downing Big Macs, and his Depends.

Checking... checking.... nope, still don't give a shiat about anything this moron has to say.  Bush remains a piece of shiat who deserves to go down among the worst presidents in US history for the Iraq War, failed response to Hurricane Katrina, and crashing the economy with his neocon policies.  In the right light, I might argue that he was actually worse than Trump, due to having two terms and a semi-competent band of ne'er-do-wells to devise his policies, as opposed to the completely incompetent clowns and grifters that seemed to always attach themselves to Trump.
