I wonder what the tipping pint was for Pat? I mean, so many previous cases to get outraged over yet it was this one that made him think "this is wrong." It was this one that made him speak up. I really wonder why now?

Fun fact. PAT Robertson doesn't get boogers. God gives boogers to sinners. Pat is belived by God, he told us, so obviously, no boogers

I think it's due a combination of BLM movement, camera phones and body cams.

Now each pointless shooting or near shooting of a black man is is getting videoed.

As FoxNEWS spends more time defending the police even hardcore Republicans are now watching the videos and realizing just how terrible the police are acting.

I'm sure that this was at least a part of it.  Somewhere in the recesses of his brain is a thought that this shooting wouldn't have happened had this woman cop been in her kitchen where she belonged.

Also, next to that thought is another thought that this kid wouldn't have been shot had he had the good sense not to be born black because, you know, Pat gonna Pat.

in any normal industry if you have two tools that are very different you don't make them look the same.  for sure if you have a This Could Kill You and This Is Not Going To Kill You situation you make those things very different and incompatible with each other.  it's way your standard 120V plug can't go into a 220V outlet.

So why do tazers look anything like guns?  you don't need super accuracy and they are used close in so a tazer shaped as a cylinder with a thumb trigger would work and no one would get shot because the cop though they had a tazer.

The answer is that they want it to look cool and feel cool using it.  their egos are more important to them than your lives.

So open question, why don't we have the lethal weapon farther away from the dominant hand in general (flip the taser/firearm location)? I have thoughts as to why, so hopefully I can get a straight answer.

edmo: I wonder what the tipping pint was for Pat?

Pat Robertson has been in a position of extreme deference and authority for over 55 years, which is when The 700 Club started airing. Think about that for a minute. He started being a TV preacher during the Johnson administration, when the Beatles were on their last US tour and a computer less powerful than an old Samsung smartphone filled a building.

He's always been a shiatty fundie who isn't fond of gay people or women, but the the broader culture of fundamentalism has undergone multiple shifts since he started. He was already preaching when Jerry Falwell organized the Religious Right to oppose desegregation. He was a fixture by the time Francis Schaeffer and a few others convinced the fundies that the Catholics had the right idea about abortion. He ran for president in 1988, and was one of the Old Men of the Religious Right during the Ruby Ridge siege, and the Waco standoff, and the paranoia about Clinton abducting people with Black Helicopters back in the 90's.

By the time the aftermath of the War on Terror and the Trump administration rolled around, he was stuck in some mishmash of previous eras. He wasn't super enthused about "intelligent design," as was the style of the 2000s. He supported Trump, as I recall, but was never as obsequious as fundagelical orthodoxy now demands.

And, it would appear, he hasn't picked up on the way in which a good white fundie is now also supposed to be a 100% sold-out police bootlicker.

Pat is occasionally right about things, simply due to the fact that he's too old to follow along adroitly with right-wing culture anymore, so he just says what he thinks.

his crew is also the pro gun freedom crew. If the "mistake" is accepted this will be bad PR for guns. The need here is to make the conversation remain focused on the most outrageous least important part of it all.

Otherwise the conversation could easily wind asking thigns like, do all cops really need to carry guns? Is bringing loaded guns into emotionally charged and fast moving situations maybe a bad idea? Should there be more restrictive polices on the police for them to be allowed to draw their gun in the first place?
And other POVs that would find this leads into places the NRA and gun freedumbs folks want to steer clear of.

So for all of this keep the conversation focused on two things:

1: whatever is most outrageously stupid and pointless to matters.
2: whatever makes this look like the one "bad apple"or "one off mistake" here is the only problem that exists to consider.

this is why Pat had something to say that we head scratch wonder how it is us and Pat are in agreement about anything?

Pats been pro marijuana legalization for many years.

And remember Pat hired Rev. Ben Kinchlow to cohost with him 45 years ago back in 1975.

I bet that was a huge shock to his viewers in the South to see a black man introducing guests and leading prayers.

Hate to break it to people, but this isn't the first time this has happened this year. It's hard to get outraged over the ninth incident this year. Possibly more given how stats on this aren't required to be reported. It's extremely likely without specific training that a police officer can make this error. How ever far too many people are asking all the wrong questions due to confirmation bias.

If you notice what Pats actually saying, he's:
1) defending guns first and foremost
2) anti-woman
3) asking for more resources for police
So this is hardly a change of positions for him. It's very consistent.

Glock's have a grip safety it's a leading cause for cops accidentally shooting them selves while trying to draw it. It's a big reason why you should not keep a round in the chamber while walking around with a Glock. If she actually had to rack a round into the chamber this entire tragedy could have been avoided.

Or you know require officers to carry fire arms with a manual safety.

Glocks' do not have a grip safety, but they won't fire unless your finger is on the trigger.

The leading cause of cops shooting themselves with glocks is poor trigger discipline.
