Yeah.  A Nova Black Hawk with jump jets and large and med. lasers on continuous non-grouped rotation fire could take those things out.

I prefer Urbanmechs. Mostly, cause I look like one.

I'm sure the Soviets tried to build giant fighting robots during the Cold War. It wouldn't be the craziest thing they did.

The situation is Dire.

I find it odd that the largest mechs are 100 tons, when a much smaller M1A1 tank is 67.

A Locust with a rusty machine gun and a limp could take those out.

Donetsk is under the control of the Russian sepperatists, so they're the ones who made them.

*Some* of that is materials science.  Improved composites and alloys, honeycombs, etc.  Bulk of the mass is only in the armor and reactor.  Structure, etc., is fairly light.

Dunno what FWL is, but I saw a YouTube video about the fight for Donetsk airport yesterday.

So I just happen to know who is currently able to build robots there.

Link is very much Ukrainian.

FWL is the Free World League.

Many comments in this thread are Battletech oriented.  My roommate in college was a huge fan, and I still really enjoy it.  The old school stuff.  Can't be bothered with the spirals of ridiculous details that erupted over the last few years.

This has that old school feel. :)

The storyline was always a little (and probably deliberately) silly. But I love the glib explanations to handwave away why humanoid robots are somehow better than tanks and airplanes.

Also, I'm not sure what faction Russia landed in.  Some people say Capellan, but I only recall seeing Russian names for Star League and Clan characters and always figured all the Russians left in The Exodus to form the clans.

Tikonov was the coreward tip of Capella before Davion took it in the 4th.  You also see Russian names pop up in the Combine.

I'm still pissed about how Infocom kinda allowed you to cheat in the Amiga version of Battletech.

On the Amiga version it was possible to leave the training grounds in your training mech, heavily damaged, only to find the people you were fighting for just pretend it didn't exist.

Considering how it was a possible stunt to pull, yeah, dicks. :(

You could take the Chameleon in all versions, not just Amiga.  And they didn't pretend it didn't exist, 'mechs were common enough on Pacifica that it didn't stand out. Especially after you and Rex get the civilian clothes to blend in.

Now, if there was a way to steal or salvage a Jenner (or even the UrbanMech)... that would be OP.

I assumed it was a bug when I were a kid, because you had this damaged mech, needing repair obviously, and that wasn't an option.

If you could it would have been game breaking of course.

/I liked that game, obviously. Last Infocom game too.
