I'm going with Dewey for this one. He finally got tired of getting stabbed, shot & beaten up every movie and Gail's interest in the bedroom has gone down considerably since Scream 4, for some odd reason.

Here's what worries me when they do this shiat.  Hollywood can't consistently write a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end under normal circumstances.  And we're supposed to believe that a movie with, say, 3-5 mutually exclusive scripts is going to be at all watchable?  I'm not saying it can't be.  But I wouldn't bet my 401K that it will be.

Wait, there was a four?
...three was a sibling or something, right?  Or was that two?
There was a fourth part?

With this kind of passionate interest, no wonder they have to go to such great lengths to keep the story a secret!

Strange, because after its first showing there will be spoilers everywhere. Seems like a lot of effort for little return.

Scream 1 was Syd's BF & SLC Punk
Scream 2 was Mickey & Mrs Loomis
Scream 2 was Syd's half-brother
Scream 4 was Syd's niece and some dork she got to help her...until she killed him

It's a marketing strategy. They want it to sound like there's this huge, passionate fanbase that's obsessed with all things Scream.

Is it working? Were you convinced?

I enjoyed 1-3. 4 sucked. We get endless Fast and Furious and Saw movies, so sure why not retread everything into the ground.

Spoilers for Scream 5? Who the hell cares?

The first Scream was successful partly because it was a meta horror movie. It primarily focused on slasher movies. The new Scream should therefore also be meta horror, but focus on something different since slashers are played out. In the post-Scream era what new kind of horror movie was sort of a fad/trend like slashers were? Found footage! That's what the new Scream needs to be, found footage meta horror.

Lovecraft. But only because I hate Sydney.

The fourth one was really close to being a great movie.  If the killer got away with it (like they should have) it would have been brilliant.

Big deal. I do this for all my movies.

The first three were actually pretty good. The first was a movie about slasher films and their tropes, the second was about sequels to slasher films and the third was about trilogies. And they wrapped it all up, like trilogies are supposed to do. The fourth had no point at all and I have no idea what another is going to do.

I like the idea of Sidney finally snapping from PTSD and becoming the killer.

Why don't they do it like Clue?

It could end like this...
Or this...
But this is how it really ends....

This arc has already been done in horror movies.

One of the main characters has to be the killer. Either Sidney snaps or it turns out that Dewey isn't the moron he pretends to be and was the mastermind the whole time. There has to be some sort of twist where they all don't keep surviving.

They should pull a Clue and film multiple endings, and release the different versions to theaters randomly.

I say forget the horror genre.  Start with Sydney's murder and do a police procedural movie.

The franchise fans will never see that one coming.

Do people even give a shiat about a new Scream movie?

The answer is no.

We're talking about Wes Craven, who made like a dozen Nightmare on Elm Street movies when 1 and 3 were enough.  Oh shiat, he's dead, isn't he. Well I have nothing to add.

Wes Craven made two Elm Street films.
