I mean, I guess that's a better use of the government's time than rolling back voting rights for Black people

The Alabama House voted 94-4 yesterdayto designate the sweet potato as Alabama's official state vegetable.

I want to know more about those four dissenting votes. Who voted against this, and more to the point, why? Were there fevered debates on the Alabama State House floor about the all-important decision of what to designate the Official State Vegetable? Were there some personal grudges involved? Was someone infuriated by the very idea of there being an official state vegetable?

I can't wait until the next episode of Soap to get the answers to these questions and more.

Alabama's official emblems, symbols and honors, including:

A bird and a game bird, a fruit and a tree fruit, and... The state outdoor musical drama.

/They were so busy asking if they could, they never asked if they should...

All y'all are so naive. This is a blatant attempt to indignify the far superior African yam. They are native to Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Some yams are also considered invasive plants, often considered a "noxious weed", outside cultivated areas.

Not to be confused with the American "yam" which is the result of a marketing ploy by the industry to differentiate a new variety of sweet potatoes.

Probably folks who aren't anti-sweet potato, but that represent districts where farming some other vegetable is a major industry, so their constituents might be annoyed at them voting to honor something else.
