They extended the Mass Pike to Pittsburgh?

Are the new road tolls being redirected to Philadelphia like the Turnpike tolls?

Now if they'd get the Mon Valley done. They need a better way to get trucks in than the Parkway East.
It was built before modern highway standards and has never been upgraded to meet them, and probably can't be. It shouldn't be an interstate highway. The problem is it's a major route from the Turnpike and US22 into the city, and it has failed at that since the 40s.

You know, just do away with toll roads. Instead just tax everyone who owns or rents a car. That way you have no need to install toll readers and all that stuff. Because when you get right down to it toll roads are really just a tax on driving. Yeah, yeah, I know that not everyone who drives uses them or uses them often, but why should that stop the government?

Should've started with building a T line running to the airport, but no. Had to dig a tunnel under the river so asshole sports fans wouldn't have to walk through Downtown and over a bridge to reach Pirates and Steelers games.

I don't know, after a heartbreaking (to them) Pirates or Steelers loss there are some fans who probably should not be walking across bridges.

I remember when they first converted to pay by mail around Pitt. The tolls went up by 267% on some of the shorter stretches.

That won't happen because God hates the South Hills. Anything south of the South Side is cursed to one of the 7 levels of traffic hell. I mean the West Hills are a little better but it's still Purgatory.

When I was regularly driving from NYC to Pittsburgh, I'd do I-80 then cut south. It added 45 minutes to the trip, but it was more scenic and no tolls. Also, lots of local diners with food better than rest stops on the Turnpike.

So does Texas. They're renovating a highway that does not even NEED to be renovated, just to install a new toll line

Fark tool roads. Where I live they actually eliminated tools for a bridge. They said it was now paid for and no more reason for tolls. Cool. I never imagined anyplace would ever do that.

Strange. The bridge I mentioned is not on that list. The Coronado bridge in San Diego.

There are separate articles for toll bridges and toll tunnels, but that isn't in on there either.  Wikipedia isn't perfect.  Only mentions Hampton Roads VA tunnel, and Maple Street Spokane bridge as former tolls.

Commuter (heavy) rail to the airport, light rail around downtown.

T should have spokes out to Oakland, Sq Hill,  Millvale, Highland Park, Bellvue, Rox, Crafton, Baldwin etc but bring back the old PATrain to Robinson, Murrysville, Cranberry, Southpointe

The thing is, it's pretty easy to catch a bus from Squill, Oakland, Larryville and a few others to Downtown. Then you have to catch the Airport Flyer to PIT.

To be honest, Pittsburgh International Airport is a misnomer anyway. I need to head to JFK or Newark to skip the country.

I live literally at the epicenter of this construction. It stops dead at Hendersonville and they have publically stated that it will be at least 20 more years to fund the rest to the Mon Valley/Route 43  junction as intended.

I'm not familiar with 579, but 43 is considered part of the turnpike.

As far as I can tell from the list on wikipedia, 376 is the only toll road in PA that's not also part of the turnpike.  2 toll roads in the state doesn't really seem like a love affair.  Now Florida on the other hand...

Fine by me.  Makes the trip from airport to my parents place a lot easier.  Nobody wants to go to the Mon Valley anyway outside of manufacturers of oil & gas widgets that keep opening shops in Charleroi because it's cheap only to figure out later the Mon Valley sucks and the workforce that didn't leave is probably addicts.

The Beaver Valley Expressway (I-376), PA Turnpike 43 (Mon-Fayette Expressway), PA Turnpike 66 (Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass), PA Turnpike 576 (Southern Beltway), and Penna Turnpike NE Extension/I-476 (Turnpike 66 and the NE Extension are side-branches from the main Penna Turnpike, but are tolled separately).

And Texas has turned their roads out and are telling their roads to start making them money or they will get pimp-slapped (and they are planning on adding 13 new tolled roads to the 25 they already have), so the PA DOT is probably jealous of Texas right now.
