Yes. It's super easy, barely an inconvenience.

70s Burt Reynolds could take on 90s Jeff Bridges.

I've always cared about the Oscars, at least 25%.  Flawed as they are, they are still an undeniable part of the American Canon, right?  Parasite won last year, that was cool!

.....this is the first year where I really do not give a damn.  They're like the Grammys now.  Give every award to Mank, I don't care.  I'll never see it.

I'm not bitter or trying to be cool, it's just... every day, another piece of the 20th century fades into oblivion.  It happens.  In so many ways, a new and utterly bizarre world is forming.  Everything can't last forever.

I've seen all the Best Picture nominees and yeah, it's a bit of a weak year. I thought only two of the films were truly great and the rest decent except for Mank.

8. Mank - A bit too indulgent, but I'll admit the picnic scene between Oldman and Seyfried near the end was excellent.

7. The Sound of Metal - Great sound production, great performance by Riz Ahmed, and lovely final moment, but also pretty by-the-numbers.

6. Promising Young Woman - Would've ranked higher, but something seems very off about the ending.

5. The Father - Amazing performance by Hopkins, perhaps his best. Even for a 90-minute film, it still feels a little too long.

4. Minari - Maybe a little too slow and meandering, but well made and beautiful. Youn Yuh-jung as the grandmother is my favorite performance of the year.

3. The Trial of the Chicago 7 - Aaron Sorkin is a great writer, and listening to his dialogue is a lot of fun. I'm not convinced he's a good director yet (the final scene, ugh), and I wish he wouldn't play so fast and loose with the facts.

2. Judas and the Black Messiah - The story of the assassination of Fred Hampton a la The Departed? I'm in.

1. Nomadland - A melancholy film about grief without necessarily being sad. There's a lot of joy in it as well. A story that neither condemns the van life, nor portrays it as poverty porn. Frances McDormand is fantastic, but then again, when isn't she?
