Don't forget the part where the convicted felon mayor Ganim who went to prison for corruption as Mayor, and was still re elected later after getting out, wanted him in that job too, since the guy used to be his Police driver during his first term as Mayor.

The place is a cesspool and the whole thing stinks of corruption

Came here to say that is amazing! Serve as mayor for 12 years, commit a shiatload of corruption, spend 7 years in prison, and get reëlected after you get out. The Aristocrats!

"David Dunn honestly thought that Perez would be at a marked disadvantage ... since English was Perez's second language"

He was a cop for like 40 years. Clearly he spoke English well enough to get hired, and it had to have only got better in the next 4 decades.

One year and a day, so he might sit minimum security for a month or so before he's paroled.

He's a felon now though, so he can enjoy trying to explain that shiat away on every potential financial/housing/employment application in the future. I don't think that's right btw, but this asshole is getting no sympathy from me.

Bridgeport: the Baltimore of Connecticut, with none of Baltimore's redeeming qualities.

Only reason to be there is to take the ferry to Long Island.

I've heard it called "the armpit of New England". The PT Barnum Museum is pretty cool.

It's federal, so no parole.  You can get time off for good behavior, but even with that you're going to serve at least 85% of your sentence.

Wait, the mayor of a town of 144k had a police driver? Are you kidding me here?

"With none of Baltimore's redeeming qualities," is low-key one of the worst burns I could imagine.  I mean, jesus.

Uh...it's Connecticut. Even the Republicans are Democrats.

Yeah...they're still riding under the Democratic Party banner though.

If they were Republicans, you all would be excoriating the party for that.

Yes. And Ganim is still a better mayor than others. At least he wasn't Moran or Bucci.

St. Mary's is a nice area. Mountain Grove Cemetery is lovely. Merritt Canteen has fantastic food. That is 3 nice things.

/other than that, this place could be better

This is the city that reelected Joe Ganim, this is not even close to shocking.

I often find myself wondering which is more impressive, Ganim winning the mayor's office after prison, or the fact that the people selected to run against him were so inept that he handily beat them.

I loved tuning in to one of the local NPR station's morning show where they cover local/state politics when this was going down. You can't write surrealist comedy at this scale.

Still stuck here. Only thing I can say is, at least it's not Florida, or some equally corrupt small town in a red state.

Minimum security, but 364 days would put him in a jail.  Typically a better choice, but maybe not for a cop.  The guys waiting for their murder 1 trial and their trip back to prison would also be in said jail.

Dealing with the aftermath will be the dozy.  I'd expect he'd still have a bit of "above the law" stench on him to help in other criminal enterprises.  He's just kicked out of the "big gang".  But for any "legit" options, he's farked.
