All it takes is a few law abiding citizens and cops following them waiting till there's a violation driving around at the speed limit.

Atlanta is the only place I've driven where the city goes into gridlock for a light drizzle.

2021-04-13 4:23:39 PM
Large swaths of the city are zoned and designed for high-capacity through streets.  Good luck with that.

2021-04-13 4:24:13 PM
I've driven through Atlanta multiple times. Being able to even go 25mph would feel like street racing.

2021-04-13 4:25:50 PM
If you can't handle 30 mph on the average street, you shouldn't be behind the farking wheel.

2021-04-13 4:26:09 PM
That is about the average speed on the perimeter interstates, so why not make it the same on the inside of it?

2021-04-13 4:26:14 PM
Right. After driving at 80+ MPH speeds on the interstates people are suddenly going to slow to 25 MPH as soon as they exit and hit the surface streets downtown.

Does she even LIVE in Atlanta?

Reminds me of speed limit signs in campgrounds and rv parks set at 10mph
Do you know how hard it is to go 10mph?  Will you get pulled over for doing 12 mph?

Are they really trying to transition Atlanta from a "driving city" to a "walking city"?  Because that will take a lot more changes than putting up some new signs.

It's kind of weird if we really cared about the speed limit we would just have pace cars that's against the law to pass and have a cop car with each pace car and then additional ones sprinkled it would actually use less manpower than our current whack-a-mole system

so autonomous pace cars with so many cameras on them you will not escape detection from passing them and will look forward to a swat team delivering the ticket at 2:32am on a Tuesday.

I may have gone off-track somewhere with that thought.

Wadded Beef: I've driven through Atlanta multiple times. Being able to even go 25mph would feel like street racing.

I don't know the Atlanta area well enough, but there actually are cases where reducing the speed limit can actually speed up traffic flow in heavy traffic.  Usually it's at higher speeds though, where you get a lot of sudden stops, since a sudden stop creates a ripple through all the traffic behind it.

Drivers generally ignore the 25 MPH limits, and I've never seen Seattle PD out enforcing them.  The city paid some $$$ to put up electronic signs with radar speed displays.  Typical urban speeds are 35 MPH or above.

Yeah, as soon as I posted that I remembered that it did seem familiar; I did watch the first couple of episodes a while back but just kinda phased out into something else and forgot all about it.

I-285 is where I learned to clear the onramp at 100mph or else the highway patrol would honk and flip you off for blocking traffic. posted speed: 65  everyone's speed: 113.  Then just move the decimal pace two spaces for the four hours of rush hour.

This makes a good argument for just automating enforcement.  And disarming the police.  The fact that armed cops are racist and suck doesn't mean that traffic violence isn't bad and can't be prevented.

That was ice, not snow. I grew up in the Midwest and have driven in nasty ice storms, and while it wasn't the worst I've been in, it was pretty butt clenching.

We also pretty much can't get snow tires here. I know someone who was moving to Minneapolis in the winter and had to go through a snow storm to get there. It took 2 or 3 tires stores before he found one that would even entertain special ordering them.

That's not a bad one.  While you're at it, put in some proper bike lanes, too.  This five lane street used to be four lanes.  They narrowed the right lanes, added a middle lane and moved the inner pair of lanes out slightly.  The buffers are where curbs or posts will be added later as further protection.  Kind of shiat but still better than it was, this five lane street also used to be four lanes, though given the lanes were already narrower than the first example, I probably would have kept it four lanes and left space to add barriers later.  Best I have locally would be this example, which used to be four lanes plus on street parking, which is now two with two one-lane cycletracks and left turn boxes (the green things; motorists stop behind them, bicyclists wanting to turn left cut across the crosswalk to enter them before turning left and wait there for the signal on the street they're turning onto; motorists cannot turn on red at a bike box).
