His mama always told him life was like a box of chocolates. Even when it all looks brown from the outside, there's all kind nasty whiteness hiding inside, trying to ruin everything.

They didn't go with Huey P. Newton Academy as they should have, but I suppose I'll accept this one. For now.

I generally prefer folks holding off on naming things after people until the person in question is dead.

Until they find out Hank Aaron was a litterbug.

No, the only sensible options for school names are fictional characters.

Name the school after Hammerin' Hank instead of a Klucker?

Yeah, that would be cool. Aaron was awesome, and one of the nicest guys I've met. He hit 715 on my birthday.

It was probably named for Forest (also spelled Forrest) Hill, a suburb of London, and has nothing to do with Nathan Bedford Forrest. You might note that his name was not "Forrest Hill," which seems to have slipped by someone. There are places throughout the US, north and south, named Forest Hill. But Hank Aaron is a better name, anyway.

Confederate General Hospital is where Colonel Angus performs oral surgery.

Yeah, in a town named for all sort of Confederate leaders, I'm sure that's what happened. Let's see, we got Lee, Jackson, Davis, and Dixie streets, let's name the next one for a suburb of London. Everyone good with that?

I ultimately don't have a huge problem that some things are named after Confederate leaders, especially when it's indirect (like Lee Street), but not all Confederate leaders are the same. NBF created the farking KKK. His name on anything sends a pretty clear message.

They're saving the B52s name for a funky little shack 15 miles down the Atlanta highway.

For the REM building, you'd practically have to drive to the end of the world as we know it.

Hank Aaron?  A guy whose batting average was 0.305?

Yeah.  I wish I was revered for doing my job 1/3 of the time.

Sheesh.

They have to take down all the statues of Forrest Hill, too ... 3, 2, 1 and done.

They renamed Forrest Avenue years ago. It's now Ralph McGill Blvd (editor of the Atlanta Constitution, and a noted proponent of civil rights).

I'm all for renaming confederate named schools for Black and other minority role models, but if it's a school, why not an academic or at least civic leader role model. George Washington Carver, Thurgood Marshall, Barack Obama, etc. etc.

There was a school in Orlando, in what is now a largely Puerto Rican neighborhood, named after Stonewall Jackson that the district renamed to Roberto Clemente Middle School, even though he has no local connection.
