Pretty sure I've liked Sam Neill in every part I've seen him in. Just a low-key good guy charisma.

/Loved the way he sold the "But that's not. . .what I'm gonna do." line. Perfect combination of exasperated and reassuring.

Good call.  One of my favorite space horror flicks.  Deserves more love.

Came here to say this.

I was 11 when this aired, but my mother let us stay up to watch the weekly episodes and we were all convinced then that he would indeed become James Bond. Even before the internet, everyone we knew who'd watched the series on PBS were in agreement. (This was back when lower middle-class families would get together on weekends to watch stacks of rented movies because only one family owned a VCR while another had a top-notch TV.)

The Timothy Daulton films of the late 1980's feel like misappropriated placeholders employed by an executive (lacking instinctive filmmaking sensibilities) for Pierce Brosnan who was unavailable because he was still under contract to play Remmington Steele until the end of 1987, the year The Living Daylights hit theaters.

But yeah... It was Neil all the way.

But, would he have almost seen Montana if that happened?

Heh.  I always thought if I ever wrote a PSYCH episode, my fake name for Guster would be Riley: Ace of Cakes.

He also did a great job in probably the most obscure movie I have, at times, considered my fav movie (if only for sentimental reasons):  One Against the Wind.  It's him and Judy Davis in occupied France.

(Also Kate Beckinsale, if you're into that sort of... wait, where you going?)

Wait, somebody else auditioned along with Dalton? And he still got the part?

Timothy Dalton was the best Bond.

Sean Connery is a fine actor but he only plays one character: Sean Connery.
Don't even try to argue this; you'll only embarrass yourself.

Dalton was also up against Mel Gibson (rejected for not being British) and Christopher Lambert (rejected for French accent). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_actors_considered_for_the_James_Bond_character

Dalton was boring as fark as Bond. And people said the same thing then that they said about Daniel Craig, that he was closest to the Bond from the books. Books aren't movies. Bond is supposed to be having fun chugging vodka, getting with girls and killing people. Brosnan was the best at that. Even though the last half of Die Another Day was terrible

George Lazenby was the best Bond. If he hadn't been such a pompous ass, we'd have seen him in more than one movie.
