(Prospect Magazine (UK))   The violence in Northern Ireland should come as no surprise, given the PM once asked a colleague "Remind me, which ones are the orange johnnies?"   (prospectmagazine.co.uk) divider line

You mean a guy who thought breaking the Good Friday Accords would be no big deal doesn't care about Northern Ireland?

I'm shocked! Shocked!

Funny how foreigners knew more about what would happen with Ireland and Brexit than every single rube who voted for Brexit.

Bojo needs a kick in the arse and Brexit needs to be canceled.

Oh man, it's almost as if that thing we said was totally gonna happened actually happened despite brexiters denial and wishful thinking! How wild!

Next think you know, they won't be able to strike up long-lasting new trade deals that are better than the old ones, because thinking you could support your economy on exports of BBC original series long after season 4 of Sherlock retroactively ruined all of British culture was a bad idea!

I still do not understand why news organizations insist on taking and using these close range + telephoto high resolution images of politicians where you can count the pores on their face.  It's worse than what models and movie stars get subjected to, and they're ones that you can kind of understand that for.

Northern Ireland are like poor white people in the GOP.

Get a farking clue, the people you're loyal to don't give a flying fark about you.  Never have.  Never will.  You're just a bargaining chip to persecute the people they hate even more.

They knew it would happen day one after the Brexit voice.

"The irresponsibility is astonishing" might as well have been Bojo's campaign slogan both for his election, and Brexit.

I had a 4hr drive through central Illinois today and was listening to Belfast radio (radio.garden).  They did not mention Brexit once, but every 5 minutes were giving updates on the Derek Chauvin trial.  Just found that a little weird.

Why? Dublin's fine. It's in the Republic of Ireland.

Yeah, because there was never any problems at all in Dublin during the troubles, and surely loyalist terrorists wouldnt think of attacking the republic.

Never happened before.

Oh Jesus, are you back for another round of getting your ass handed to you?

A little preliminary for you.   My father in law, his brothers, and more than a couple of his nephews are all Gardai.

Both my FiL and his brother worked the Dublin car bombings in '74.  You know, the most deadly UVF attack in the history of the republic?

You are still an idiot, dude.   If you had a lick of sense you would slink off into obscurity, but you arent that smart.

Well, there's your problem. Most of the few terrorist attacks in the ROI were against the Garda. Or people directly connected with the Brits.

Otherwise, London was more dangerous than Dublin.

This should all be cleared up soon, apparently the Brits are considering aligning with EU regulations on food which will let them drop the border checks.

The farce continues

I mean, the Tory party line is that Johnson is actually a genius, playing 5D chess against the libs by pretending to be stupid by messing his hair up so he looks like a clown when he appears in public. TFA touches on that, when it says:
I assumed it was another example of the faux-naïveté that he always used to extract as much information as possible from those around him, which he could then use to his advantage, while giving nothing back (he deployed the same approach to buying rounds of drinks, or cups of tea).

And a certain Farker will tell you he's among the smartest humans to ever live, citing a video where he discusses classics with the noted historian, Mary Beard.

But knowing classics is no sign of intelligence. That's a basic part of English public school rote learning. I attended a private school and learned Latin, did the Cambridge Latin course and the poetry of Catullus and Vergil. I could tell you about how Vergil's metaphor of how lies spread faster than truth still hold true today, and how Catullus used a sparrow as a metaphor for his penis. I wouldn't say that knowing that makes me smart, though.

With a bit of prompting I could even talk about spondees and dactyls used in Roman poetry and the like.

The post Johnson is most suited for is "Upper-Class Twit of the Year".

/And the nuance about how the most elite private schools in England are known as "public schools" is that when they were founded, they were open to all members of the public who could afford to pay their fees, as opposed to the guild schools that were common at the time, and limited to guild members only.

That's the hilarious thing, really. Northern Irish loyalists fighting hard to remain British, while no one in Britain gives a flying fark about them.

It's the same wherever there are right-wing parties. You have ignorant, angry supporters having their strings pulled by rich dickheads who don't give a flying fark about them.

You see it in America, Britain, Israel, Palestine...all over the damn place.
