Yeah that guy had no idea who the reporter was or what she was saying. He did have an interesting point that where she was standing, you could only see the protesters and not what the police were doing. She was listing off kinds of police violence she saw, though, about when he interrupted, IIRC. He told her she didn't show anything real, she asked him to please tell us what is really happening, he refused. He also did not believe they were on tv live, which was surreal and frustrating cuz I was like nnnooooo dude this is your BIG CHANCE to set the record straight! But all he did was fark around. (I had the tv on while I was reading and I half-paid attention to the incident). I'm surprised at how much the internet is taking the dude's side instead of the reporter's. I'm guessing the internet didn't actually watch CNN, so they are just as out-of-context.

Link to the actual thing, which, like The Hill's Ow-My-Balls-style layout and unrelated auto-playing videos, I can't make heads or tails of.

Maybe that too?

I used to, but for some reason this year I watch them and think they are great. I dunno what changed, but it was probably me. Post-2020 BLM, the CNN seems to tell news like we weren't all born yesterday and need to pretend both sides are bad. But maybe that is just me seeing how they work within their rules, after watching a few months of YouTube and Twitch feeds from the front lines of riots.

I liked it. I was disappointed that it ended when it did. It was certainly cringey the first time through, but after the second viewing I came away a fan of the masked guy and the journalist.

I'll be looking for additional footage tomorrow to see where the story winds up.

I predict an epic future sit down follow up interview within two weeks of the Chauvin trial conclusion.

I guess I missed where trying to flee justified getting shot.

Even the cop admitted she farked up, why the need to defend her?

I don't think he cared that she was from CNN. The media by and large has had an absolutely abysmal track record of covering protests, particularly Black-led protests, especially Black-led protests against the police. We've all seen both-sides-y and "zomg the property damage from the riots!" the coverage has been for the past year. If I were an activist in the streets, I'd be pretty suspicious of them, too, unless I knew them personally.

Plus not everyone is going to be a great orator--especially not, say, the poor, under-educated, and marginalized. That aside, the dude is angry, and he gets to be. You don't like it? Then maybe start defunding the f*cking police already.

He went from "you need to tell the whole story" and her telling him that they're live, to "I don't care if you're live!"

Dude, you got a point, that was your chance!

Lol he's trying to get her to move closer to people discharging fireworks at ground level, so she can report on how things really are.

Yeah she can see that, which is why she's telling you to be careful.

I mean what do you want the media to do, cover up that riots and property damage are happening?

It's a thing that's occurring.  Why do you think it isn't newsworthy?

I mean. The video is all over the internet.  I guess it's debatable the shot was an accident (there's really no way to know for sure if she REALLY thought she had a taser)!

But there's zero wiggle room that he was trying to flee.  They were cuffing him, he got away and jumped into his car.

If that isn't fleeing, what is it?

^^^ yup this is the type of bias that pisses people off. You can say police ALLEGE it was an accident ... and you can say that he was attempting to evade arrest, but if you do you really need to point out WHAT he was being arrested for.

His gripe is with the program directors and he's botching about field crews.

Years ago I was drunk and watching CBS News. Something in it set me off, and I called them up, asking to speak with Dan Rather.
Somehow, I bullshiatted my way into getting him on the line. I was shocked. So much so that whatever impotent anger I'd had disappeared. All I could manage was to stammer out that I was wasting his time but that it was an honor to tell that to him in person.
I don't think I impressed Dan Rather that day. And I assume someone was at least reprimanded for letting me get that far.

I used to work as a journalist, and when I'd talk to new or student reporters, I'd offer them this equation: Accuracy + Brevity = Clarity.

Good journalism applies those first two in equal measure to achieve the third; if you lean too heavily on brevity (like in the excerpt that WWJD posted), you fark up the accuracy and, thus, the clarity.

There's also the suck-up-to-law-enforcement instinct among reporters that leads to atrocious writing like that, but that's a different issue that's not as easy to address.

The guy was an asshole. She was telling him that she thought he shouldn't have his back turned as a bunch of other assholes set off fireworks in the middle of a crowd. If she hadn't worried, people like you would have accused her of not caring about black people.

In other words, no matter what happened, CNN would be wrong because people aren't happy unless they are biatching.

And apparently, younger people don't know what the fark "live TV" is. Weird.

Where did they think he was going to go? They had his driver's license and his license plates. Don't you think maybe just meeting him at home might be a more sensible move than shooting him (even with a tazer?)
