The minority party should be looking for ways to work with the majority, not the other way around.

One note about the American Rescue Plan:

This year, I had to start buying my own health insurance directly from the exchanges, with some government subsidy based on my income level.  The American Rescue Plan improved the subsidy.  So my insurance company asked me to reapply and see if I could get it cheaper, and I'm getting the same insurance for $190 a month rather than $318 a month.

EvilEgg: The minority party should be looking for ways to work with the majority, not the other way around.

I am all for the majority party trying to work with he minority party.  It's a great way to avoid creating resentment that can hurt the majority at the polls.

However, this is just more GOP gaslighting.
They are masters of making excuses for shiatty behavior;

States rights for racism and bigotry

Family values for anti LGTBG

Constitutional originalist for both.

Free speech to cover for Nazis and racists.

The same thing is happening here.

The response is simple.  We don't need the Republican party.

This! If we had "loyal opposition" then reaching across the aisle is fine and encouraged, but we most certainly do not have "loyal opposition" so let them freeze.

And God forbid you use states' rights to push for drug legalization, argue that family values demand protection of family members regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, claim that the original drafters of the Constitution never intended for XYZ to be legal, or use free speech to cover for BIPOC or anyone who supports BIPOC.

Agreed.

I like the concept of the filibuster: yes, we have the majority votes, but we are going to try to make this at least a little more legislatively encompassing. If that means adding some wall funding to an infrastructure bill, or whatever, then sure, consider it.

But today's Republicans are in no way operating in that manner. They took McConnell's #1 legislative priority of making Obama a 1-termer to heart and are now "governing" in an obstruction by any means manner.

Doubly so since Gore ran with a very centrist platform, but with none of Clinton's charisma so another bland milquetoast centrist was redundant.

That's fantastic. My plan through UHC is 800 dollars a month on a 50 50 split with my employer, dental's extra, and I don't have vision as far as I know.

I'm a healthy man in my early 30s with no pre-existing conditions...

10,000 dollars a year and I don't even go to the doctor.

I'd much prefer to explicitly pay taxes to the USG that go towards healthcare instead of pumping 10,000 a year into an opaque, confusing system that enriches fat cats.

There are much better job programs we can institute as a society than insurance companies and we can create organizations which deal with risk assessment and the other few valuable functions an insurance company provides.
