According to police, a 46-year-old man was inside the store in the bread aisle when something caused a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants to fire.

"I turn around to see him grab his crotch and run to the front of the store," a witness said. "Scared the crap out of me and some other shoppers. People heading to the exit as fast as possible."

Three cheers for the second amendment!  (Stupid people with guns... yay!)

There are only negligent discharges, not accidental discharges. If a loaded weapon in your possession fires, it is either intentional or through your negligence.

It is your responsibility to ensure it doesn't go off. Oopsie daisy doesn't cut it with firearms

Unless you're a cop. And then it's the whoopsie doodle between a gun and a taser.

Yes, they have over 1,000 stores making them one of the largest grocers not name Walmart or Krogers.

That is factually incorrect. See, for example, the lawsuits against SIG from 2019 for what's called "drop fire".

And before you try some "well ackshually" nonsense, drop fire can occur during normal jostling and bumping, so it doesn't require the negligence of losing hold of the weapon.  It's so named because usually the required shock comes from the gun falling at a particular angle onto a hard surface.  But it can easily be caused by someone else bumping into you hard, for example.

Sounds like a defective weapon.

I'm honestly surprised to learn this. The town I grew up in got a brand new Food Lion back around early 1992. It's now the administrative office of their school district

But the firearm could've cut something, considering where it was located/pointed.

If you carry in a waistband you kind of deserve what you get. NFL receivers included.

Maybe don't live where you feel the need to carry?

2021-04-13 2:39:26 AM
If I saw a guy in the bread aisle shoot himself in the crotch I wouldn't be upset, I'd have a rye smile on my face.

Yeah. Apparently now it's cash-and-concealed-carry.

2021-04-13 3:24:59 AM
This is why I don't carry guns on me, even though I have military training, because it's far more likely my stupid ass would end up with a negligent discharge than me be involved in a situation where I'd use it.

In reality my first aid training or shipboard fire fighting experience will see more use, probably rendering aid to some dipshiat shooting his dick off, or pouring gasoline on a fire, etc.

Chortle, I've shopped in that store particularly Food Lion once.   Doesn't surprise me.   Normally, to get customers like that you have to go to the Dollar Store.

Two things his mommy should have told him early on:

1.   Don't Mexican carry.
2.   Don't play with the thing in your pants (at least not in public).

I had some of my first dates at that Tinseltown in the background. I've gone t that Food Lion so many times.

I hate it when places I know end up in the new or on the Internet.

Food Lion is big business man, that shiat is all over NC. It might be a wind of Kroger, like Harris Teeter but I don't know for sure
