Sorry Taiwan, we'd like to help but we'll be busy getting Israel's ass out of the Iranian sling soon.

Not the air defense identification zone!  Anything but that!

As you can see from this picture of the air defense identication zone, the Chinese have a LOT to answer for here.

China is itching to start a war.

The perfect timing to attack taiwan is april. The rest of the year its a no-go.

So he's doing his best to provoke taiwan into doing something stupid. It aint working.

"South China Morning Post" sounds fake. It sounds like a newspaper in a bad movie set in the future where China wins World War III. Or one of those weird T-shirts from Asian countries that have random English words on them, like "Suburb Motorcycle Sunshine Sports".

Wait, what happens if we're at war with Eurasia AND Eastasia?!

It is fake. Been scamming Hong Kong for 118 years. China always was good at the long game.

The intent is to exhaust.

China can afford to keep tossing planes at Taiwan.  They've got lots of planes and pilots; it doesn't stress their capabilities much.

But Taiwan can't afford to keep reacting to China.  They have no bench strength... they can't keep sending the same people up over and over.

So eventually Taiwan either cracks under pressure or stops reacting, giving China an edge if they ever decide to attack for real.  Plus by then they'll have plenty of training.

China is smart. They know we have a completely useless hamstrung government, coupled with covid, now is their chance to risk stealing Taiwan like everything else the past decade and the USA not willing to start a war with them over it.

Taiwan knows it has a US aircraft carrier 2 hours away at a comfortable cruising speed of 500 mph.

China can sabre rattle all it wants.

Carrier cruising speed is measured in nautical miles per hour, much less than 500, but that's knot important right now.

Carrier could hit 50 mph while risking prop/shaft damage. The jets could easily do 1500mph but would be spent by the time they got there.

You'd much more likely see a huge barrage of cruise missiles wipe out every Chinese port. Of course China will have their huge fishing fleets and "militia" boats loaded with troops and would sail a few thousand of them into Taiwan to storm it.

Chinas navy is a joke and so are their nukes. What they can do is throw people at things like there is no tomorrow.

But also, who cares about ADIZ? They're not recognized by international law. U.S. doesn't recognize China's ADIZ either. This wasn't a fly over, or even a run *at* Taiwan.

It's Taiwan to Philippines. A 1200km flight. An F-35 has a flight range of 2200 km and can refuel in the air before engaging.

Jeezus....the carrier isn't doing 500mph. It's weapon delivery vehicles are.

I'd sanction them for wasting fuel and American tax dollars.

Its the nation state equivalent of "I'M NOT TOUCHING YOU", except instead of an annoying child getting decked right in the face, the end result of the touchee getting pushed too far is explosions.

I wonder how hard it would be to generate a tsunami via explosives and direct it towards coastal infrastructure of an adversary? Beamforming tidal energy seems like it could be fun, at least until someone uses it against you that is.

China still has a logistical nightmare to contend with.  They might have a million troops but not an easy way to move them around the country.

frisbee3: What would happen if the US was faced with an offensive in Taiwan and Ukraine at the same time?

NATO would probably sacrifice Ukraine in that eventuality, to keep things in reserve should the Taiwan Strait situation get out of hand. The United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan would destroy large parts of the PLAAF and PLAN. I don't think anyone would go nuclear.

Armchair quarterbacking of course.

China is obsessed with being highly respected. Taiwan is showing that the PRC isn't powerful enough to get what it wants.
