I wonder what Screen Rant's viewership numbers on non-Pitch Meeting videos are.

I suspect Ryan George is carrying the channel.  I hope he's being paid well.

I remember it being better than Prometheus but that is a low bar to clear.

His biweekly pittance is super easy, barely an inconvenience for them. He asked for a raise but they told him to get way off their backs about it.

I know these are written to for humor's sake, but if he wanted to make them more accurate, shouldn't the writer be the more level headed one, with the exec doing the meddling?

I feel like I've seen others of his where it's more of that dynamic.

My wife doesn't watch the rants, but she laughs at some of the jokes when I'm watching in my neighboring office/computer room. She's since adopted the "barely an inconvenience" line in her comeback repertoire.

Not as terrible as Resurrection.

Also applies to Prometheus.

So, these pitch meetings are supposed to be funny?

I find that if I watch one of these a season, they're hilarious.

If I watch one a month, they're okay.

If I watch one a week, they're tedious.

Alien Covenant, for those times when Event Horizon is too cerebral.

I thought it was far worse.

The scene in Prometheus where the idiot coos at the alien cobra thing? That's like...two-thirds of Covenant, I think.
The other third is checking your watch and trying to find a single fark to give about anything that happens.

/still better than Aliens 3

The fact that people even watched it after the garbage of Prometheus just shows how dumb humans are. Almost as dumb as the people in these movies.

... There was a sequel to Prometheus?

Only saw it once, but remember it being not great but not terrible, typical popcorn action-horror.  Not sequel worthy though.

Prometheus had some really interesting ideas and beautiful visuals but suffered by the horrible trope of lazy writers making supposedly smart people do the stupidest thing possible.

Rather than learn their lesson by what didn't work in Prometheus ,it was almost like they tripled down on the people doing stupid things bullshiat. It was absolutely horrific.

Yeah the IQ of space travelers is around 10, it seems like.  Also, there were terrible cuts made, to the point where at  the end they all sacrifice themselves with a rousing "Arms up!" thingie and I was like wait, was that a thing they built up to earlier in the film?  It was not.  But I bet there's a bunch of establishing footage for that scene on the cutting room floor that explained why I should care about it.

I feel like if these things were really all that funny, they wouldn't rely on Annoying Orange imagery for their thumbnails. That alone is reason to never, ever click on one.

Are any of the other Alien movies any good? I watched Aliens again last week and I hadn't probably seen it since maybe the 90's (possible the 80's) and it is still awesome. I watched Alien maybe 5 years ago and it is pretty great.  I watched Alien Resurection on video in the late 90's and remember falling asleep during it (I may have been hungover). So would it be worth watching 3 or trying Resurection again, or watching Prometheus or the Covenant? Like are they anywhere near as good as the first two, or is it Star Wars prequel/Terminator movies after 2 territory?

Alien felt like 70s guerrilla-filmmaking
Aliens felt like 80s blockbuster
Alien 3 felt like someone trying to replicate 70s guerrilla-filmmaking  (I actually liked Alien 3)
Alien Resurrection felt like a modern assembly line sequel
Prometheus felt like modern filmmaking, thinking they can replicate 70s guerrilla-filmmaking and combine it with blockbuster filmmaking
I never saw Covenant

Resurrection is pure crap. Stay far away. Alien 3 is not good, but supposedly the Fincher cut is better. I hated Prometheus and Covent. One and Two are some of my favorite movies.

I liked Alien Resurrection. Yes, it had its goofy moments, but it was a fun popcorn movie.

I think it is probably the best of the post-Aliens entries for tone and acting and effects and design and effort, it just wasn't enough fun for people to overlook the problems with the script.

Regarding stupidity: the characters, being in a prequel, had even less idea what to expect, but we the audience were ALL OVER that alien shiat from scene one because we had been jaded bug-hunt motherfarking experts for decades, and I think this contributed to people finding the characters impossibly stupid. The crews in Alien and Aliens did some pretty farking questionable shiat too, but we forgave it because we were along for the ride and enjoying it. Prometheus was cold and distant, and that left viewers rolling their eyes at the characters instead of empathizing.

/give or take a couple of inherently goofy things like the donut chase
//and casting Guy Pearce was just distractingly f*cking crazy by the way

Prometheus was considered a hit?

I think I'm the one person who likes Resurrection. It was the movie that introduced me to Ron Perlman. I got a good chuckle out of it and it's got a solid cast. Is it a good alien movie? Eh. Is it a entertaining movie on it's own? Sure. If it's on I always watch it to the end.

Watch Alien. Then watch Sliens. Alien is a masterpiece and Aliens is great. One is a Gothic horror film in space and the other is a war film.

There were no other films made after that.

Just keep saying that to yourself.

There were no Alien films after aliens.

You'll be much happier that way.

It has been a while, so I might have some details wrong, but what isn't stupid about:

- the people with the 3D map making drones getting lost?
- supposedly smart people trying to pet snake looking critters on an unknown planet?
- trusting the android after it has been shown to clearly know what is going on (it could read the writing and was seen doing complex interactions with the door in order to open it) and not asking any serious questions?
- having hyper modern hospital equipment "for men only" (even if the owner is a man and it was supposed to be a secret)

I feel like there were more stupid, stupid things they did, but it has been a while and I don't quite remember.

DerAppie: It has been a while, so I might have some details wrong, but what isn't stupid about:

It isn't that they didn't do anything stupid, it's that their stupid was for the most part the same stupid that we were willing to forgive the characters in Alien and Aliens.

Remember this?
Alien - Egg Chamber | Facehugger Scene (HD)
Youtube qLuB2pThUlY

Remember the Alien crew violating protocol to bring him into the ship?

Remember the Aliens crew pressing on into a huge farking hive of space monsters after basically disarming themselves?

/I would have to watch it again but I don't recall any *stupid* trust of the android beyond the assumption that the android wouldn't actively try to murder everyone (same assumption the Alien crew was working with); the crew knew going into the mission that there were objectives they weren't privy to

//the medpod was a tool for one person's use so they loaded it with the procedures he might conceivably require; it didn't have to be that way but it isn't a character acting stupidly either; you might also ask why a ship's entire crew would be on the drop mission in Aliens, too, and the answer is the same: to generate tension
