(NHL)   It's trade deadline day in the NHL. Anyone care to prognosticate on big players going to 'x'? Lots of players moved late yesterday for bags of used pucks so there might be some bigger deals today. It's all over one way or another by 3pm ET   (nhl.com) divider line

Ishkur: lol Canucks trade Gaudette for giving the team Covid.

Which was emphatically denied. They have been trying to move him since the last season. They got back a player that has spent most of their time in the AHL, so it's definitely not an upgrade.

Which part? Gaudette giving the team Covid, or why they traded him?

That seems to be a little cheap for Bennett, but it means that Calgary doesn't have to worry about losing him for free at the expansion draft. This might be a common theme: trading away away someone that you won't be protecting.

A set of drink coasters?
Actually, a 5th round pick in 2022.

I do like Sutton - he's experienced, and he knows he's a 6-7 defenseman at this point in his career.

That's a hell of a big trade for an at-the-wire deal.

Hmmm, better than a laundry bag full of used jocks...not much but the Ducks have found a few gems in the later rounds over the years.  I guess it's 'something' for a UFA on a league minimum(ish) contract.  Oh well, good luck Ben.  Hopefully you get some playoff ice time.

Ducks get Fleury from the Canes for Hakanpaa and a sixth-round draft pick.  I've heard decent things about Fleury, but Hawk was doing pretty good (& a 6'5" D-man can take up a lot of room on the ice).  Time will tell I suppose.

Not sure what to think.

When Mantha is on, he's dominant. However, it takes a lot for him to be.

It will probably be a good move for Mantha as well.  There will be a lot less pressure to be the #1 or #2 guy in Washington.  It will allow him to develope.  I hope it works for him.

I am LOVING this. Panik and Vrana are solid players, plus a 1st this year (might be a VERY late 1st, perhaps more trade bait) and 2nd next year. Daaaamn. I'm sad to see Mantha go... however this might be very good for his career, and for Detroit going forward. His contract was a beast; I'm wondering how much Detroit is retaining.

Shocked... SHOCKED that Glendening and Bernier were not moved.

I know there was supposedly a lot of interest in Bernier.  Recent bad games (7 goals allowed to NSH) might have spoiled that.

Bernier staying is probably best.  Geiss didn't perform this year as I expected him.  How would the Wings compete without Bernier?

So, good deals from the Wings, Leafs and Flames.  I think Calgary's finally realizing they are going to have to retool to be competitive, while Detroit stocked up so much on the Mantha deal.  Have to see how it all plays out

Even if they'd given a suspension it only would have been two games, tops.

Still, they didn't fine him. They made the stupid excuse that he supposedly made contact with the chest first so it was legal, which is farking horseshiat. But they can't go offending the golden child, can they?

May as well, Suzuki gives the Habs the Dreadnought lead around 8 minutes into the game.  Suzuki wears #13, so here's the French battleship Courbet, commissioned in 1913:

Also, it may not be helping that I'm a Sabres fan.  What a throwaway year last decade this has been.
