If your name is Willy (spelled with a Y), you have no other options but to sell Jeeps. It's your calling, and obviously what your parents planned for you.

counterpoint: BBQ pitmaster.  Any guy named Willy who cooks ribs knows his stuff.

I actually reserved a base 2 door manual in blue just see if they would even care. Ford itself has followed up a couple times, but my assigned dealer never once tried to contact me. It was only $100, but if you aren't ordering a top trim 4 door they want no part of it. If they had followed up in a timely fashion there's a decent chance I would have bought one. Zero chance now.

Their off road test track will be the local Wal-Mart Parking lot.  It's about the roughest terrain their transmissions can handle.

The whole model for trucks and SUVs is selling the higher end ones. They don't care about low level ones when they can sell one for a way higher profit. Even fleet sales don't really matter that much any more.

I'm always shocked that it's difficult to find a truck for much under $50K without having to special order it. Especially with a diesel I think the average price is about $80K. And there's no shortage of people throwing money at them.

So you can test the Honda Pilot there, too?

Yes, it's insane. I've never been in the truck market until recently and always thought the truck side would be pretty straightforward (you know, the stereotypically male "Just give me a couple options and let me buy a damned truck!" attitude). Nope. Ram has like 8 trimlines for the 1500, then infinite standalone options within those trims to the point where they each overlap the adjacent trim by about 80%.

That's some farked up marketing, but when you're selling in a hot segment, you can do it.

We recently got a new F150.  We were looking used but they had like $9k off plus 0% which was hard to pass up.

Anyways, the salesperson was like "there are 7 million option combinations" which I thought was really stupid.

Another truck for suburban folks to get, pull the doors and fender trim off, add some lift and bigger tires and then pretend they'd run that $40K+ thing out of doors.

Yeah. If we are talking about broncos, then it's "in rut."

Some options make sense in a truck - long bed, short bed, crew cab, engines, etc.  Have to fit the truck to the job.

But when you add a dozen trim levels to that? Yeah it starts getting out of hand.

LOL, it's true. Ford sent me an invite to see one in person on Wed, but the dealer where the showing is won't even return my calls. I need to drop off one of my Transits for a recall this afternoon, maybe I'll bend the sales manager's ear a little.
