Nice one, subby. Haven't thought about that song for years.

Especially since Sondheim explained that clown=fool in theater parlance.

(Tbh, the first time I read the lyrics, I thought it was supposed to be a woman making comical acceptance of a missed chance, not a mourning of the same. 🤷)
